Howard" gets booming! (New ALTA Drop-In Speaker Cabinet)
Here are some sneak photos of "howard's" latest mod. These photos show the box, before I added it to the car. The later photos show it in the car!

Sorry I can't take photos of the SOUND it produces.
Better photos and more information coming soon.
The system in my car uses a Clean Sweep From JL Audio. This allows the use of all the MFSW controls, I-pod integration, FACTORY head unit etc. Tucks nicely in the side pocket in the rear side. I combined that with some Phoenix Gold amps, sub, and front separates. (I must put a plug in her for Phoenix Gold they really went WAY out of there way to help us out. There is a GOOD possibility that "Howard" and another one of our cars will be in booths at SEMA. They then provided a ton of audio for both of these cars. So even with that plug I can honestly say they play REALLY well and are a nice complement to the rest of the car.) I will write up more about my installation with far better photos soon.
Back to the box. They will be available in both 10" and 12" versions. It simply "snaps" into the back of the car after removing the jack foam thingy, and false floor cover. We will be offering these with (far smaller) amps, and line out converters in time as well for a near plug-n-play installation. In the meantime for those more wiring savvy, they can be ordered ASAP from me directly. All come carpeted in black to match the boot of your R56. Made from EXTREMELY ligthweight MDF and CNC machined (yes I said CNC!!!) to be an exact fit.
MSRP TBD for the box, speaker and amp combo, $249.99 MSRP for the box itself, logo included (sans speaker and amp.)
For more information e-mail me or phone.
Thanks again, more info and photos ASAP!

Awesome; I've been waiting for something like this! When you say they will be offered with 'far smaller' amps, what exactly would the wattage be? I'm not wiring savvy in the least so having a plug-n-play installation would be perfect. Really rookie question, but how would this connect to both power and the factory head unit?
THANKS
THANKS
Please note that in the photos above, I constructed an amp rack/tent of sorts. I am running in the neighborhood of 800 watts in the car and the amps needed couldn't be hidden completely. Using a 200+- watt amp could be hidden along with the line converter in the pocket on the passenger side of the trunk. There is also access there for the wiring to convert over for bass only from the right rear speaker. The amp power is brought from the battery through an OEM grommet in the firewall, then along the side pillar, under the rear seat and to the hatch area. TOTALLY hidden. Then the ground is grabbed by a post in the passenger hatch area as well. Signal to turn on the amp is done though signal sensing at the rear speaker. Pretty straightforward!
Questions? Just ask! First shipments will be available soon.

Flush surface sub?
Nice looking product! Are there any subs out there that sit low enough to cover them with a grill? I'd like to be able to still use the boot for storage when I need it.
Thanks

Around 6.5" depending on if the pole piece is vented or not. The hole is offset so the magnet will clear. We've tried a mmats pro 2.5 10 and it fits no problem... most large drivers should fit. I'm running an RE SR10 right now, love it in mine!
Great price for the box!
I was concerned about airspace for a 12" until I noticed your box is quite a bit deeper than the one I have. Any idea what the airspace is?
The only suggestion I'd have would be to countersink the hole for the speaker so the surround stays below the level of the box so you can put a weight bearing cover over it that is flush with the surface.

I currently have JL 10" W3v3 and hope that will fit... guess it's a good thing I didn't upgrade to the W7
Where do you put your jack and tools? What about with HiFi option? Any chance of a recessed speaker so a grille wouldn't stick out? How about the space on the right side of boot for the amp? How much would you charge just for the plans and instructions?
A little over .7 cubic feet. Its good for most moderately sized subs. it'll work with navi cars, you still need an amp though.
As for the grille... Alta and my company are working together on a solution hopefully with a subwoofer that is countersunk and out of the way. Its not here right now though.
Have fun,
Josh

Box is sealed and depending on the woofer choice (as an example a 10") you could certainly hide the amp etc. in the box itself and not risk changes in sound quality.
While I used the pocket on the right hand side for my JL Clean Sweep (again overkill for most folks) there is enough room and air circulation to mount a decent sized amp there with some creativity.
Also, depending on your level of expertice one could mount the amp/amps on the backs of the seats. (I may still do that down the road as I am a bass hound, and even though this rattles the windows, I need a bit more oopmh and will need to move a larger amp to the back of the seat.
Countersinking a woofer is in the works, as is a grill to cover it.
We want this to be as ironed out at possible prior to release, BUT if enough clients are interested as-is (and as it is, is REALLY good) and want to worry about amp mounting etc. on there own we can start shipping within two weeks. PLEASE contact me directly for arrangements. Pricing is still a-ok at $249.99. Again, logo size and placement are being reworked as we speak but the box overall is the same.
I have had this in my car now for some time and I can say it is an excellent product and maintains TONS of the functionality of the boot, while giving GREAT SPL and aural enjoyment!
Hit me up with any other questions or concerns!

Thanks for the update Adam.
I'm acoustically and electronically inept, so forgive me if I sound stupid. Have you considered adding a port tube? Are they usually added to larger boxes or smaller ones, and what is their purpose?
Can the amp be spliced into the wires for the HiFi upgrade located in the left side compartment in the boot? I'm assuming that that amp is part of the HiFi upgrade and not there on the standard system. Yes? No?
And now for the dumbest question. That smaller section of the enclosure is designed to fit in the space for the toolkit/jack, and those tools would have to be relocated?
Finally, $250 buys the enclosure with matching carpet cover, logo, choice of hole size, and instructions for install, but no amp and no woofer and no grille? Will you be offering those components at additional cost in the future?
Thanks,

Generally speaking a port tube is less than ideal and done to make up for inadequacies in the box or speaker chosen. This box is ultra tight and the correct cu/ft for maximum performance from 10 and 12 subs.
HiFi has an amp to power its own speakers. It is NOT large enough to support the demands of a 10-12" A separate amp is required.
Who uses the tools? Ok not trying to be a jerk
but other than the tool for the sunroof (which can go in the dash) you don't need the tools. You could place them in a pouch of sorts (like on the R53) and place them in the side compartment under the seat etc.We are working to pair a small amp, speaker, wiring combo to accompany this for the clients that dont' wish to chosoe those on their own.
Hope that helps! Thank you!
I understand this, but where do you get the input signal from to connect the SW amp?
