I just painted my calipers also, cheap, easy, and looks killer! and just so you know, the debadging looks great with the mini madness badges only. heres mine, a very similar set up:

But I can't for get the CF in the classic.

 

The scoop needed a little dressing up after the stripes were put on.

 

The scoop paint is a great idea. Good job!!

And the CF classic is out of the box thinking and i dig it.

I guess my vote for a cheap, effective mod would be tinting.

To me, wheels have the biggest impact in terms of how the car looks. Nothing else has such a large effect on the overall appearance of the car.

Largest impact for the $??? Vinyl! Stripes, graphics, wraps, flames, whatever... It's inexpensive (relatively), fairly sturdy and not permanent, so you can do the change to a car and return it to stock fairly easily.

 

Agree on vinyl... Properly aplied, it can be easily removed with no trace. This is good since times and tastes change - I'm all for reversable MODs.

She'll love it, I'm sure. And hey, if you want to make it a MINI purse, call the dealership and order a replacement badge. IIRC, I used the one of the bonnet for the MCS. A couple dabs of good glue, and presto, you have a MINI purse.

 

I think the small inexpensive things are what brighten the car up....

Examples
Stubby antenae off of an S2000 or honda element
Painting Calipers
Removing the Badges
Removing the rear wiper
Painting tow hook

And there a few more but you could do all of those DIY for under $30

 

Was it so dark outside that you couldn't tell which car you were taking the antena from?

I've pretty much done everything: black out, new wheels, BBK, de-badged, sharkfin antenna, CF headlight rings, aero grille, smoke lenses, dark window tint. In the end even the MINI club members don't even notice any of it... Like Livia Soprano said (and I paraphrase) "in the end, it's all for nothing. You die in your own arms."
I'm the only one who really cares how my car looks, so that makes one.

So where does one find the CF headlight rings? I've looked around, and come up with nada.

 

For the love of god, where can I find cf light rings????!!! I want them and i dont do this for other people. I do this for me, becuase i love to work on my car, and i love how it looks... now i gotta go and hook up my scanguage that just arrived

 

After seeing this post this morning I mention this little job to the DH (Darling Husband). He actually purchased the paint today while he was out running around. After a few hours I took a trip out to the garage to see what he was up to. He was painting the calipers on his GT500, not my Mini. What's up with that? No, he had just not got around to doing his as of yet. Since he ordered new brake pads for the GT500 the other day he figured he'd do his before they came in. So my calipers are in line somewhere.

 

Anyone had their calipers painted long term... like two or three years ?

I'd be interested to know how the paint holds up. Any need to re-paint them ? If so, how often ?
