Interior/Exterior Most Dramatic/Effective Exterior Mods
Yes, in fact I read your "how to" write up on the other thread before doing mine. I had used their product before on my rally lamps, but did a dry install since they were small. Did the wet install on the headlamps.
I did a wet install on the side turn signals, even though they are small. I just find it easier to see and push out bubbles when it's wet. But, I didn't have any bubbles on this install. Due to how rounded the lens is, though, I did have some bumps around the edges, which were easily flattened using a blow dryer while squeegeeing.
Just wanted to post on the tread I started. I just put on the belt line blackout kit. I will certainly say that for $12.50 there is no greater mod. It seems like such a minimal thing, but its amazing how such a subtle thing can make such a dramatic difference. In my opinion chrome does not belong on this car. If anyone knows of CF headlight rings I'd love to know about them.
I used to drive a wrangler. I will never understand why chrome was big on it either. Chrome on an offroad vehicle? It boggles the mind. My only thought on the mini is that when the classic came out, chrome was the only thing out there for customizing the exterior of a car. Maybe that has carried over to the new mini.
There are instructions on the Beltline Blackout on this thread somewhere. I highly recomend this. And while I am new to NAM, if theres anyone newer than I, check it out at Outmotoring.com

^ That reminds me of a long-standing question that has been lingering in my MINI-obsessed mind:
Is there anyone on the board who blacks out chrome and is OVER the age of 40 ?
Seems to me that this is for the younger generation of MINIacs. But I could be wrong, of course. After all, I was wrong just last decade... once.

I am 24. I think chrome is an old fashioned accessory. I can't quite figure out the craze with chrome wheels, but for the most part chrome isn't the in thing. I would ever say that it doesn't look good.... On the right vehicle. I think, however, that carbon fiber has afforded a future-looking generation a space-age material with a material we view much like past generations viewed chrome. Now the disclaimer... I speak from the point of view of a person very involved in the Japanese Sport Compact society. And I in no way speak for everyone. Its just an opinion
24. Yep.
By the way, I have a MCS with chrome-lined interior AND exterior and it has carbon fiber scoop and boot handle. So I guess I'm neither old or young. Or I'm both. :impatient
By the way, the MCS was just purchased and the previous owner put the carbon fiber on the MINI. Me, I would have been just as happy to keep the chrome. Especially on a black car that you really can't tell it's there (and it's expensive).
Ps. Couldn't agree more on chrome WHEELS. Gag.

Of course, I remember when bell bottoms were in... then out... then in again... now on the way out again...
Soon (within 3 years) people aged 17-25 will be paying EXTRA for aftermarket bumper strips to go down the side of their cars - cause all the cool stock cars will be "shaved" and that won't be "special" anymore... I make this Nostradamus-quality prediction this 27th day of August, the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Seven.
I like the chrome and the black out kits. I think it just depends on the color and mods of the MINI. For me I like little hints of chrome. My first MINI looked great when I did Black Bonnet stripes with Chrome pinstripes.

I'm 51. Replaced my chrome grill (std on MCC) with a black one (see post 61) and thought eww about the interior and exterior chrome options. I'm interested in blacking or color coding more of the chrome, but I think the car looks balanced now and I'd have to get rid of everything at the same time to look right.
I should have started a new thread on this to keep track better and so as not to hijack THIS thread.
rkw, you must be a youngin' at heart.
I still think if we took a poll on those who have blacked out chrome on their MINI(s), 95% would be under 40 years old.

Could be 95% of mini owners are under forty. There's got to be a poll for that some place around here... (over fifty and did the beltline mod for a while)
Nope, Bradley... I've been around here long enough and read enough threads to know there are TONS of MINI owners over 40 years old. Probably close to 40 percent, I'd say.
Want to get together with me and do some surveys ?!?!?!

So says Nostrablimey.
Sure I count. I stopped aging at 29 anyway. Didn't you know that
