Removing antenna base on '06

I found the thread with instructions on removing the antenna base for an '05, but before I start the project, I wanted to know if the process is the same for the '06. (Heck, is it the same for R56s, too?)

I'd like to paint my antenna base and really do NOT want to do it while it is still ON the MINI.

Thanks!

I may need to tarp the entire MINI with just a small cutout for the antenna base...kind of like a surgical drape! LOL

not hard

You will need to drop the rear part of the headliner. After that you need to drop the "sonic detector" thingy in the headliner. This will allow you to get access to the bolt that holds on teh antenna.

You willl need to disconect the two wire that plug into the base.

Cannot be more discriptive. I put my sirrius antenna in there a while back.

Good luck

I found removing the smoke detector in the center of the head liner did nothing. It can all be done from the rear by prying open the headliner there. You will need some type of socket or wrench to get the large nut off the threaded post that mounts the antenna base through the roof. Otherwise (and I dont know what thread you found) it's easy and the thread I contributed to tells about all you need to know.

LOL....what is nice about the older bases is that you can buy a cap, which I did, sanded it and painted it to match. The newer base is totally different, so you may need to do just that, surgical drape the car, .

LOL, you got me

Yeah, it is a helmet for a really small monkey, one that does velodrome type of biking, or time trials,
