No reason to get your shorts all wrinkly over it... It's called the "Mad Modder's Club" for a reason...

I list my stickers and a lot of cosmetic stuff that some of the hardcore guys sniff at... but still have enough that "count" to clear the lower hurdle... But I'm not even trying to be like gnat... yet...

Yeah, hell, I'm the originator of the club and *I* listed warning label stickers and cabrio headrest stickers, among others.

This thread wasn't meant to exclude anyone. It was meant for fun. So list your layer of pollen from not washing as a mod if you want. Just be prepared for some good ol' fashioned ribbing, if you do.

You're definitely in. A few more and you might give a run at one of the Club Officer positions.

Thanks, much appreciated. That's the list I keep for money's spent. I can't remember most of the little custom items. Glad to be in.

With respect to a few more, I'm jones'n for some euro R56 JCW seats. I have a friend in the biz over there that might be able to help me out, but I've been too busy to seriously pursue it.

Sorry, I haven't gone back through the whole thread, but wasn't Gnat or someone making some badges up for this club? Could you point me in that direction?

EDIT: Let me explain this. All of the stickers I get from the MINI vendors, and I've probably bought from everyone, go on my 2 year old sons race car bed. It's starting to look pretty good. Thought I might get some custom Mad-Modder stickers for the kid.

Slightly Off Topic

I have a general rule for mods;

It needs to pass the "Does it make me go faster", or "functionality" test. Faster = head, Functionality = XM Radio. You may say, what about your driving lights, well there is one exception. My wife has bought me a lot of parts for my car and those are exempted from the rule. For the driving lights, I said I liked the look, she bought them for me before the car was even delivered So to give my wife props(plus I know she reads the forum ) here is a list of the mods my wife gave as gifts, most are good, a couple are exceptions to the rule;

Wheels and Tires
Driving lights
Alta Catch Can
JCW Steering Wheel
Wind Blocker
Whalen Shift ****
Methanol Injection System

Probably some more.

So here's what I do. I leave a "Wish List" in excel on the desktop of the computer. I list everything I want, from engine parts, to suspension, to stuff from detailers paradise and tools from Sears. I list price, priority, vendor, contact info, etc. I then convince my wife who will convince everyone else that anytime somebody want to get me a gift(Xmas, Birthday, Fathers Day, Anything) they look on the list, based upon priority and cost that I have on the list and pick something.
It's a good deal to have if you can swing it. No more goofy shirts or worthless gifts, well for the most part

P.S. And no, if your wife gives you a sticker for you car it's still not a mod.

Nice test, but I don't buy into that methodology. There are absolutely aesthetic mods that have no performance benefit nor functional benefit. Frankly, this includes many things people count as "performance" mods (like spark plug wires, and coils, and intercoolers, and lowering gear, and... )

Nobody's gonna convince me that Emily and Tori's paintjobs don't count as mods.

I completely agree with you, a custom paint job in my eyes is a mod. I admit my euro arches are questionable. We can debate the performance merits of plug wires and intercoolers, I didn't need them to make power, but they may fall in as mods.

The bottom line is that's why there are officer positions and an el presidente of the club, it's at their discretion to call BS on what may or may not be mods.
I can look at a car such as yours or Imagox(sp?) and see countless hours of time and hard work that have gone into them, certainly more than mine. I guess it's about customization more than quantity. I always thought of it this way, and the officers can correct me if I'm wrong: to be in the club one should have once touched each major area of the car in a significant way.

Exterior
Interior
Powertrain
Suspension
Brakes

OK, I'll shut up now.

I think we're mostly in violent agreement. I'll agree that, in general, a "sticker" isn't a mod... though a well designed custom graphic theme that uses some decals, etc. to achieve the result probably is... IMHO.

Yeah, what Blimey said...

For example I'll use my own car.

Cars name is GNAT, has a Whalen **** with a graphic that matches the roof graphic and vanity tag that says GNAT. There are often gnat graphics also placed someplace on the too. In that context it's a mod.

Now I'd not count the track map stickers I have.

Makes it clear as mud...ehh

I think I may not have been clear, as usual..... By sticker I mean, me putting an RMW sticker in my window, not a mod. Graphics themes, custom decal work, roof graphics, etc., most definitely is. Hell, most of the work you've done to your car(Blimey) is more involved than what I've done to mine. I'd put most of your mods as more involved than me putting a head on, I just plunk down my money and it's done. I wouldn't be able to hold Gnats jock in the mod department.
The only "involved" things I've done to my car is the Methanol install(custom pump location) and of all things, putting the XM antenna in the roof antenna. Everything else is just pay your money and bolt it on. Except for the engine overhaul, I've done it all myself, but nothings been hard or custom.
Gnat's hood is the ultimate mod. You won't see another like it. Another example, changing the light bulb color in your trunk, no mod, installing a whole lighting theme, lights in the door pocket etc. definitely is. It requires disassembly, wiring, etc.

I guess my original post was meant to quantify how I look at mods to my car. When you see it, it looks basically stock. I like it that way, I don't want to attract too much attention. I LOVE the JCW carbon dash, but just can't bring myself to spend the money on it as it doesn't go by my mod-money-spending rule. Call me crazy.

BUT still, if your wife gives you a sticker It's not a mod
