Mud Flaps and Cow Poop

I'm strongly considering mud flaps for my MCS. Our driveway goes through our neighbor's property and his cows often poop on the road. I've been washing the car very often because I'm scared the poop will do some real damage. Mud flaps might not completely solve the problem, but they will offer some help.

I'd love to hear from folks who have installed their own flaps. I'm not a mechanic, but I can use a drill and a jack. This seems like a relatively simple install from what I've read here on NAM. Also, where do you recommend purchasing the parts?

I didn't put mine on, but I can see it is pretty easy. You just need to remove the wheels to have room. I got mine from the dealer, but Moss Mini and Mini Mania, etc. have them. I don't know about cow poop, but they do help for normal road spray.

If you are detail oriented like many folks here, you'll still be washing your car just as often. The only real difference is that you'll have to wash the mud flaps too

Wow, j, I was a little afraid to enter the post. I wasn't sure what I'd find! That is an unfortunately situation, indeed!

I quickly found these install instructions for the R50, it may give you an accurate idea. Maybe you can find the new ones too.

My snapple just flew out of my nose reading your post! I've never heard of anyone having such a problem before. Mud flaps shouldn't be too challenging to install if you are handy with a wrench. Good luck.

Personally I dont see that the OEM mud flaps do any good. For normal driving you will still get the side and back spray. My suggestion is that you drive slowly through the POOP area ( mine field) so you dont sling it up on your Mini.

I have the mudflaps and can say they DO help. No, they don't keep the boot clean. They do, however, keep things from imbedding themselves in the area behind the wheels and along the door sills.

A more effective solution to this poop problem might be simply to MOVE.

Cow poop + MINI =

Stay away from sheep. Got some of that stuff on a pant leg when I was in Ireland and it never washed out.

I haven't seen that flavor yet. Although I have had some I think that included it.

They are a pretty easy install. I installed mine with the wheels on. If you leave the wheels on, it helps to have a right angle drill. Also, BMW in their infinite wisdom, do not include installation instructions in the package. You have to ask your dealer, or supplier to print them for you.

Why is it that we are sold OEM stuff from BMW and it doesn't come with instructions? Is that their way of not getting sued??

I thought a mention of cow poop might get some attention. Unfortunately, moving is not an option. It's actually an idyllic setting except for the poop. And our driveway ends on some wonderful backroads to drive.

You should see how slowly I take the driveway - I'm almost going backward. Still there's poop on the car. Perhaps it's better than having snapple snot on the seats.

Go easy on our Irish sheep, We feed the Guinness, so their Poop is a little strong.

Well, maybe you could have your Mini repainted . Bring a sample of the " responsible poop material" to your local paint shop so they they can match it with their electronic color spectrum analyser, and they will come up with a perfect match. You will never have to wash your car again.

Someone needs to make a joke about the hot chocolate color on the clubman matching the cow poop. I'm going to buy the flaps, install them, and see if they help.

The problem with painting the car cow poop color is that it changes with the color of the feed the cows eat. Oooh, is that TMI.

Sounds like someone who knows more about this than I do. As far as i know, our neighboring cows eat only grass from the pasture and I definitely know that the poop color varies even with that diet.

I detailed the heck out of the car last night and now I'm afraid to leave home. The cows have me trapped.

Sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to MOD your MINI! I'm envisioning...oh, I dunno...something along the lines of a snow plow blade on the front...stealthly plowing cow poop out of your way as you navigate the drive-way.
