rear view mirror

Ok - it looks like there's a hole in the headliner against the windshield to remove the rear view mirror, but I don't know what tool to insert in there.

Has anyone removed the rearview mirror yet, and do you have any tips?

And before someone states it - I don't plan on driving around without it. I just would like to remove it and see if I can replace it with a smaller one.

Don't know how to remove it. But what's the problem with it? Doesn't impair my vision at all, and I can't believe it's any different size that any other self dimming unit.

Just curious, Why would you want to remove the rear view mirror. Is there a replacment for it?.

Let us know when you move it cboqqess. I am tall, so have a hard time seeing around it going around tight right hand turns. How about flipping it over and installing on the dash????

Im also tall and I wouldnt mind it being about 2 inches narrower as right hand bends are often blind for me due to the size of the RVM

It would be helpful when asking a question about your MINI to state what year and model you own as there are significant differences between various years and models. I do know that on the '05 MCS, the mirror is removed from the holder by twisting it 90 degrees. I have read that the '02-'04 mirror is smaller and I think that it will fit on the '05-'06 base.

I have an '07 MCS with the standard rear-view mirror. Is the auto-dimming mirror with homelink (garage opener) available as a do-it-yourself install?

The '02 - '04 mirror is much smaller - I've found the later mirrors to create a much larger blind spot when given a loaner car. Of course, I'm also used to the smaller one so old habits die hard. They are interchangable though so if you can source one it would fit.

It's an R56. I would like to remove it for autox events as it creates a blindspot when I'm looking ahead through the turns.

I would have tried it today, but upon getting back from the weekend the Mini is gone (Tony is using it this week as we have some work to do on his WRX).
