Mirror Cap/Door Handle exchange - keep them ?

Hi,
Gonna pick up our PW/B vert on Saturday.
We bought it of the lot and were able to get checkered mirror caps and doorhandles included at no charge.
I was wondering if one of you made a deal like this and if yes, did you get to keep the original parts ?
Guess I'm getting pre-delivery jitters but I would hate to see myself paying for the material again if I ever need to exchange the parts again. After all, the mirror caps are body color and that can't be cheap to replace, right ?
Thanks for any advice.

Call the dealer and tell them you want the original parts. I would bet they would want to keep them, but you can argue that, if they keep them, you aren't really getting anything extra, as you had been lead to believe (although the checkered ones do sell for more money). Since you didn't work this out at the time, the dealer may, possibly, agree to let you keep the originals just for customer relations purposes, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Do you (or others) have experience how this works when ordering a new car ?
I saw that the accessories have their own section in the configurator (with the whole agreement about additional costs for dealer install etc.) so I assume the car would come fully assembled with the default parts and the accessories will reach the dealer in separate shipments. I didn't read anything about 'exchanging parts' or 'offset material'.

Since you got the checkers as a freebie, I would expect that the dealer will want to keep the original parts to help offset the cost of said freebie. No harm, no foul.
Now, if you paid extra for the accessories, and the dealer wants to keep the old parts, whole 'nother story.
Enjoy your new baby and don't stress over the little stuff.

Well said.

As an example, I requested the take-off parts from my MINI as I ordered the Aero kit. I have the bumper covers, and rocker panels hanging in the garage, from the car as it was delivered from the factory.

but, I paid extra for the Aero Kit. If I did not pay extra, I would expect to not be given both sets, but you can always try. The worst thing that happens is that they decline.

And put a little note in your profile that you are a PITA and should be treated accordingly. Just joking (I hope!).

Thanks guys for the advise !
You are correct of course, no need to get stressed over this.
Like I said, I assume it is pre-delivery jitters
Does anybody know if I can order the mirror caps in my body color (PW) or do they come in a base coat and need to be custom painted by the dealer ?

ok, what I hadn't considered was that often the clips holding the caps will break off and so the value of re-use is somewhat limited.
I also read a how-to on this board on how to avoid the breaking off but even that doesn't seem to be a guarantee.
So essentially my MA came back to me mentioning the breaking off and if the mechs get it off without breaking it I can certainly have it.
I'm was already more relaxed before his answer came but now I'm reaaaaaallllyyyy caaaaalllllmmmm *oooommmmmm*.

Now I can concentrate on the important stuff like convincing my wife to drive 863 miles to the Dragon

My MA gave me all of the factory parts that were replaced by dealer-installed accessories. I got the hood scoop, mirror backs, rear hatch handle, dash, and front grille.

ok, to sum up my question:
We took delivery and I didn't even wanted the original parts anymore
Seriously, I thought I will ask for them but I simply enjoyed the moment and it was a great day.
Will post pictures later.
