Vinyl Decal vs. Painted Roof

Hi All,

Finally, after waiting in "On Order" status for 6 weeks my baby is now in production! Extremely happy! My question is should I go with a custom paint job for my roof or should I just order a custom color decal from cooperflags. The roof will just be a solid color, no designs.

Thx!

A decal would be a lot easier to change down the road, if you decided you wanted to. And probably a lot cheaper.

+1 towards a decal... as mentioned: you can allways change it down the road.

I agree with the decal. Of course it won't look as finished as the paint job, but much easier to change. I would also recommend a professional installer. A job that big could be a nightmare with bubbles and creases. Plus, getting the vinyl around your wing (assuming you have one) requires a skilled hand.

There is a girl on this board that got her roof wrapped with a pink vinyl. It looked pretty good.

EDIT: It was lilcoopr:

Yep, my MINI has a gigantic piece of pink vinyl on the roof.

Warning, not for the perfectionist, because up close, it can't be done perfectly because vinyl shrinks depending on the weather. So sometimes, up close, I have white showing around the edges of the sunroof.

My job was particularly tricky because I have a spoiler (which 2 dealerships tried to remove but apparently it's super duperly attached!!) so they had to wrap AROUND that... And the sunroof. And they cut a hole for the antenna.

All in all, it is a great final product. Most people don't believe it's vinyl until they see it upclose. It has stood the test of time with two crazy Canadian winters, and is a SUPER way to change the colour of your MINI's roof without paint.

Tons of pictures can be found on my website here: www.lilcoopr.com

Thanks for the update, dickdavid! And thank-you for finding that picture of Stella's roof. I simply adore the contrast between the pink roof and the black sunroof. I'm all about sharp contrasts

EDIT:

Here are the pictures, they did not link properly from the first site.

Vinyl

I had my roof, mirrors and spoiler done for about $300.00 with 9 yr vinyl. Way cheaper than the $700 the paint shop quoted.
