Suggestions for Boot organizer?

I am looking for a lidded container that will fit in my boot. I tend to keep the rear seat folded down; I would like the top to be level with the seats and to fill the whole boot.

I would also like to be able to store three bottles of cleaning supplies vertically (Slick, Nero, and Clarity) for those times I need a quick touch up when I'm on the road). Plan was to cut three round holes in the top of whatever I get/make hold them vertically (paranoid about them leaking out).

Any ideas? I found an old thread about a nice plastic bin at Target or WalMart but all the pictures have been removed.

Thanks!

Sin,
I have the factory cargo tote with adjustable barriers. Its a perfect fit, has handles on the sides, and cleans up nice. You can move the barriers as far as you like to the sides, so keeping bottles in place is no problem.

Does it have a lid? How tall is it? All pictures on the web are so small...

I did have the greatest storage units from Texas Saddle bags, but let them go with MINI 2 years back. Am still searching for replacements, but it appears they no longer make them.

For now, and until I can find something better...Found a camping organizer by Outdoor for $29 at Walmart (in camping dept.) Is softsided and looks similar to a cargo organizer. Includes 4 separate containers with zipper tops and handles that fit inside. Entire unit fits perfectly in the boot area (35X15X15). What I really need though is something solid, and 8" high to even out the back when seats are down. So I also bought a plastic storage box with a lid of same dimensions, cut it down and fit this inside of the organizer. Not fond of the plastic storage box, but at least is is hidden by the organizer cover.

That's exactly what I was looking for...a solid container. I golf and often sit in the boot area to change my shoes...need something that will support my weight. Also have back seets down 99% of the time. Like you, I would like something that evens out the back. I am thinking about buying some 1/4" plywood and making something...

Some people have made stuff out of plywood in the past...I bet a search would pull it up.

Also, if it's something you want to be able to sit on, you might try a fabric/craft store for some really firm/dense foam. I was thinking about doing this with some super-dense foam and upholstering it with some of that faux "car carpeting" to make it blend in. If you knew someone that sews really well, you could probably cut some Prima-bottle sized holes in the foam and upholster around them.

It's one of those ideas I would get to when I have the time!

You probably couldn't sit on my current solution. But another source which I came up with is ATV storage boxes, specifically the front www.bigbuckatvproducts.com/kolpin_atv_luggage.htm Scan down to the bottom of page. This one is a perfect fit for the MINI and sturdy. A tad expensive, but not more than the new one MINI has designed for 2007.

Also, anything solid for the back cannot be higher than the 8 1/3" if it is 36" long. You can't get it in. Shorter than 36 would allow a higher storage unit.

I'm also ready for the home built flat panel, something with a piano hinge to fold and carpeted. Seems to be the easiest solution.

Does it fit/open with the seats either up or down? I've noticed that pulling the seats up moves them closer to the boot, reducing the space.

I've been thinking about designing a similar plywood box and covering the top with indoor/outdoor carpet. My son thinks making one would be easy. Wish my dad were still alive. I'd have one by now if he were. I've even thought about making it w/o a bottom; more like a shelf to bring it up to the same level with the folded-down seats. Making a cardboard prototype might be a good start.

Thought about a shelf as well but then I figured if I wanted to empty the boot for some reason it would be much easier to lift it and the contents out at once.

Note I have never done anything like this myself so it will be an adventure. If anyone has hints or tips...lay 'em on me!

The only space reduced is the seat angle from the edge of the boot well up. As mentioned before, anything higher
than the lip will not slide/drop in if it is a solid unit. The ATV front storage link is an exact fit.

Here is a pic of what I had before. Could kick myself for letting them go. They were two units which sat on top of each other with storage inside by lifting the carpeted lids.

Those look like they lay over the back seat or at least right up to it. What happened when you raised the rear seats?

The angle of the pic makes it look like they hit the back of seat. They actually just fit inside the well. Didn't affect raising or lowering the seats and were an even level when they were down. Just left them in there. Anyhow, still searching for the possibility that they may exist. These were sold originally for commerical storage to truckers and are modular. Many sizes which sat within each other.

If you find them again let me know. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.
