* MBW Motorsports * dry carbon fiber wrapped interior/exterior parts...

Since we've gotten a lot of feedback from our recent for sale postings in the marketplace (and on eBay) of our dry carbon fiber wrapped MINI parts, we wanted to post here also because we're pretty sure some people might have some of the same questions or concerns...

First off, we don't sell the 3M dry carbon fiber (or as we call it in-house "fibber" ) in different sized sheets for do-it-yourself projects. Why? A couple of reasons. First, there's plenty of places to buy it from here on the NAM, and elsewhere, to begin with. Second, having seen first hand some less than ideal installs done, we'd rather not be party to someone potentially wasting their money (and time) and ruining their part while they're at it. A proper install requires the use of an adhesive promoter (especially around curves, edges, etc.) and if the install is a bust out you'll still have that glue-like residue to deal with. Additionally when wrapping curves, edges, angles, etc. the wrap needs to be heated to manipulate it properly. Too much heat and it will stretch and look horrible, not enough and you run the risk of tearing it and rendering the entire piece useless. Our parts are professionally wrapped in-house and without the requisite amount of experience it can be a recipe for disaster. Don't get us wrong, it's not rocket science, but since we're all gearheads and perfectionists here @ MBW Motorsports, we're 100% positive that the part we ship is customers is the same quality that we install on our own cars...

Also, (unless stated otherwise in the sales listings) we wrap only brand new, OEM parts. It's usually not a problem wrapping used or take off parts but we're not exactly comfortable selling used items that may have broken or missing hardware, fasteners, etc. Again, it wouldn't go on our rides, why should it on yours?

Great question came up the other day. How does the dry carbon fiber look compared to or with the glossy? Again, this is a completely subjective question, but we've found that both interior and exterior parts compliment, instead of conflict, each other. Our '09 JCW Clubman Project car has a dry carbon fiber wrapped front end including grille surround and headlight rings and will soon be joined by (glossy CF) JCW mirror caps and an M7 hood scoop. Likewise in the interior our wrapped parts looked just fine with the glossy look of M7's shift ****. You can obviously go all one or the other, but for those that are wondering, you really don't need to if you don't want to...

With that being said, you cannot/should not clear coat the wrap. There's no need as the material itself is exterior grade and holds up extremely well to environmental extremes and it will NOT turn it into a glossy C/F look.

So with all that being said, please check out our pictures below and marketplace listings. All of our marketplace and eBay listings are for parts that are in stock and ready for purchase and immediate shipping. You don't want your car down and we don't want to be rushed wrapping a take-off. We'll do it if we need to in order to save the customer some money, but that trade-off is the down time, which some people can deal with if their car isn't a daily driver. It'd be impossible (and cost prohibitive for that matter) to offer everything we'd really like to, so please bear with us as our website store gets up to speed and we increase the availability and quantity while we work with all you NAM'sters getting squared away!

Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business and hard earned money!

The MBW M/S Crew

Agreed...we definitely don't recommend it. We've had customers ask if clear coating it will give it a wet as opposed to its normal dry look and it definitely does not. In addition, you'd have to clear it once the part is wrapped, which may present its own host of problems, particularly if it's mounted/installed. Clear coating the wrap and then trying to use it would result in it cracking and otherwise looking like hammered crap. The exterior life of the product is very conservatively rated at 3 years. Think 3 years of direct and harsh exposure, like sitting unprotected in a parking lot in Phoenix...that kind of harsh. Any concern of wear is arguably offset by the amount of protection that the product itself provides, especially on front end components like headlight trim rings and grille surrounds, which notoriously take a beating on MINIs...

I'd love to see pricing on the dashboard inserts for an R57, as well as door arches.
