I wonder if you had one of the original ones. The supercup has been redesigned. You may want to talk to Larry (his nick is EscortRadar) on http://escortradarforum.com

I'd be willing to be he would send you a new mount.

I had only bought it last month. Ordered it about a day or two after I picked up my MINI. Do you think that its been redesigned since then?

I'm wanting to do the same in my Coupe, but the anthracite headliner is giving me absolutely NOTHING to work with in terms of jamming anything underneath. There's MAYBE enough room to tuck in the power cord.

So I'm at a crossroads: start taking apart my headliner, or rig a below-the-mirror solution like I had in my previous car (I'd have to creatively modify the bracket I have). Either way it's not looking like a quick job, unfortunately.

I had great luck tapping into the power from the controls on the roof and then there is plenty of room to feed your cable towards the front and out. Once I had the cable out out the headliner which took a slight pry here and there but nothing I wasn't comfortable with I then pulled enough out to reach the detector and was able to stuff the cable back into the liner that was extra and it looks perfect.

One note is that I was able to tap into the purple/blue for +12v and a brown wire for ground which worked for me. My radar detector is only on when the key is in!

Thanks again!

Hey Morgan,

I tried moving my ground over to your setup on the brown wire but I still have the ~30 min delay before it switches off. Did you do anything else different from the OP?

I used purple/blue for +12v and a brown wire for ground. The brown shouldn't be the issue at all, the purple / blue wire is your positive/hot wire and maybe you picked a different one or you have some additional features that keep that powered differently than mine? I have a 2007 MCS with sunroof and without comfort access.

I'd double check the wires you used just in case or maybe its different your your year / options.

Okay. I will need to double check as well, but I believe when I did the install sometime back I used the fatter of the purple/blue wires. I will need to check on that. I have a 2009 JCW with the same setup as yours. Most folks on this thread also mentioned the 30 min delay, so yours is the first I'm hearing without it.
Anyone else got their detector to switch off instantly.

I didn't notice a second purple/blue wire...hrmmmm. The purple/blue wire I tapped into was the same gauge as the brown wire so maybe that would help you? Sounds like if you switch positive lines it would work better? At least its only 30 minutes so its not too bad! It at least shuts off after all.

Will have to look at it, but I remember seeing a smaller purple wire. I'm not sure if there was any blue. The purple/blue wire I used appeared to be the same gauge as the brown. I parked outside a store with a door sensor over the weekend and when I got back to my car in < 30 mins, I realized that my detector had been going off. The sunroof was open so the sound was a bit too audible :-(.

Sometime this week if you don't get any further I'll take some photos / investigate further. Definitely post any progress.

Okay, thanks. Will do on my end. I was reading some older posts on this thread and it appears the same setup has had differing effects as you and I. I'm wondering now if it comes down to the car's config. E.g. I have the factory Nav and HK stereo, no heated seats, no rear fogs...
Thanks again for the feedback.

I took a look at the wire I tapped into for the power source(#2). Hopefully the image is clear enough to show that the gauge is different on (#3) compared to #1 and #2. When you get a chance, can you compare it to what you did?

Thanks

I can already tell that the two wires we are using are different. From your picture I can see that you are using the purple/white wire where as I have been using the purple/blue wire. I'd suggest giving that a shot and I'm sure it'd work.

It worked! Thanks! So I guess a lot of folks on this thread were using the wrong wire as I was.

Thanks again!

So, I've read through quite a few pages of this but I can't seem to figure out which radar detector you guys believe to be the most reliable on the market. Anybody care to shed some light and opinion on that subject??

Well there are a TON of opinions on this topic and websites and forums dedicated to this subject alone. What I choose and someone else chooses are probably similar to car choices! Money, performance and features certainly change peoples desires for certain models. So really its a bit like saying "Hey I want the best car" and its rather subjective depending upon your needs and wants.

Here's a few places you could go to do some research on the subject:
I choose the Escort X50 Black for a general medium across the board and everyone will have a different opinion on the subject. Look around, decide your budget and what you want out of a detector and read reviews. That's the best way to decide in my opinion. There is ample information already available.

The best radar detector on the market is the Valentine One.

Now, if you want a fancy all-in-one bundle with GPS and all that, then there are others out there that also have decent radar detection in them (Escort comes to mind). But for pure radar, the Valentine stands alone.

I really like my Escort 9500ci. Installing is a pain (it took me and a friend -- who is an experienced installer -- 8 hours to install in my new CM4), but the finished result is pretty slick. Saved many a ticket with that system, and the red-light camera notification is great.

Sorry Stevoman but you are mistaken
You can pay the $400 to have your arrows but us Escort people know which is truly better. http://radartest.com/article_2.asp?articleid=100578

Did you get the ZR4 shifters installed at the same time?

Yes, the 9500ci includes the shifters. It's really a clean install. We put the front shifters in the grille; they fit in the spaces in the grille perfectly, and the rear shifter is mounted on the bumper just under the license plate. You can see them in these photos:

It is a pretty time-consuming install, but it looks really nice. As far as effectiveness, we had it in our old MCS with zero tickets. It picks up laser and radar with lots of time to react. I have friends with Valentine's and the V1 works for them. We went with the Escort because of the ability to conceal the components and have a nearly invisible detector.

Nicely done. I would love to see an interior shot of your install when you get a chance to take a pic!
