Doh! Looks like the event is supposed to happen in June or somethin'. I showed up down there at the Island Mini Mart to find Bryan Okubo and Darell from MINI of Hawaii there - that was it. The funniest part was that the building isn't even occupied yet... just empty floors. So - we headed over to MINI of Hawaii for some Pizza and "talk story" time.

I'll notify folks well in advance of the actual opening. One of the things the Mini Club of Hawai'i site is going to have is a calendar so you can check to see what's comin' up!

Well...MINI threw the event and we came! It's just the Mini mart people who ave Darrel the wrong info. We had a great time anyway. Thanks to Darrel and MINI of Hawaii for the pizza, drinks, t-shirt and a free mini MINI!

The mini event that wasn't- NOT

I drove to the Island MiniMart at dillingham and Kalihi. Looked awfully quiet but I did see a nice new Red Cooper parked out front conspicuously. Had the new price sheet in the window with a "secret message" scrawled on it.
Basically it said that regrets the event was cancelled and "Moved" over to Mini of Hawaii. So I motored over there and found a pizza and movie party at the dealership with soda and Mini shirts. Very nice and they were playing one of my favorite movies starring Adam Sandler- Happy Gilmore!

Andy- Maybe we should just have a party at the Mini of Hawaii showroom every Saturday at 1pm. Or we can do a potluck each month co-sponsored by Mini of HI and the Mini Club of HI. I like the big Wide screen. We could run movies like IJ and the bourne Identity. Chat and eat. Check out the stuff in the MINI shop, check out our newest mods. Would be great to do since Sadie and Miniac missed the gala event and were on the mainland. We can make the get together double as the monthly meeting for the Mini club of HI. Afterwards we can go for a drive after we are inspired by the Movie.

Dr Johnny Speed aka The Minihune  - funny you should mention that, 'cause Judy and I chatted briefly today about the possibility of a "1st Sunday of Every Month" Mini meet at the showroom for coffee & pastries.

A featured movie every month would really kick butt!

I was thinkin maybe for the end of May / early June we should have a BBQ / Picnic / Whatever at Ala Moana beach park some Saturday afternoon... sound like fun?

Andy and Judy-

Yes Dat be a goooood Idear.

Ala Moana Magic Island is good. The Minis will look good lined up if we can take over a section of the parking lot close to the park itself. Maybe a great Photo Op as well- Oh great bring out the cameras again- Watch out Bryan.

1st Sunday "Monthly Mini Coffee and crumpet meeting"- Certainly. Where and when? You know I have a killer starbucks Barista espresso maker which I carry in my Mini. "Have Barista will travel" as they say. If I bring it to this event I can make custom espresso, cappuccino and latte to order. I usually also have syrups in case you are bored or need to wake up or both- vanilla, almond, caramel, hazelnut, english toffee, almond roca, irish cream and more.
This all fits quite neatly in my Mini's Boot by the way.
Check out my espresso thread:

Johnny Speed huh? Wait till I learn how to drive. More driving school required- shake throughly-add more instruction
I like Dr. Coffee better. Oh OH- too much caffeine

A portable espresso maker and a case with syrups? You're kidding aren't you? If not, you should have gotten a '02 MCS since it has the extra power port out back. I have a portable fridge/warmer I can plug in back there!

Doc, you left too soon, I had a CD of pics for you. Oh well, Andy will prbably upload to his site and we can all get them there.

Beastmaster-
An espresso maker I have- it is portable only because it is not bolted into anything and I toss it into my MINI for some traveling fun. I can carry it under one arm (does that make it portable?) but only because my other arm is carrying my 5 gallon bucket full of syrups and whole coffee beans, my stainless steel grinder, temperature probe, stainless steel shots and milk steamer holder, etc. We are talking -packed up and ready for action. Bring on the caffeine.

I wasn't really thinking about making espresso out of the rear boot area of my mini. Only that I transport all the goods using my rear boot (just showing the vast size of it and that I found it to be completely usable). My rear seat is always open and ready for passengers. Otherwise I would not have bothered with the nice Lapis blue leather- besides that it smells good.

But now that you mention it. I could..... get a huge power plug thingy to attach to my cigarette lighter then plug the Barista into that. Unfortunately I also need a large flat surface and a sink/water etc so that puts a dent into the idea.
Good thought though.

Another idea I had awhile ago was to add the aux input to my stock dash radio then plug in my portable DVD player and put it on my dash and plug in the audio output to my radio so I can hear the soundtrack through my MB Quart speakers. Of course I could do this when I am not actually driving. I was trying to wait for MINI to add the part but it is taking awhile. I have ipods and other stuff to attach to my radio as well.

CD pics of the spring fling- good. Those I would like so save them for me. I'm sure there will be other chances to see them besides posting. Also I'm interested in video of the spring fling. I forgot to get out there with my own video that day. Gotta send in my camera crew the next time.

Did you ever wonder why my "logo" eyes are all big and bulged?
Auto accident? or Caffeine overdose? take your pick.
Speed or drug abuse? Let the votes begin

After your recent admission to carrying an entire Starbucks in your MINI ... Hmm... I'd have to go with the caffine addict

Hmm... now I'm thinking we need to do a breakfast in the park so the good Doctor Coffee can show us his master skills.

Latka-
I was thinking about the espresso (and it isn't even morning)(did Beastmaster tell you we exchange MCO mail at 4am?) and although I have the stuff. To make it easy what I like to have is a sink. A source of water to wash out the coffee grounds with each cup and a flat surface with nearby electrical plugs. This would be optimal. Think Starbucks barista work area. That's good. Most times I make espresso at home or at the office. Counter to popular belief-NOT as I drive. Is there a sink at the Mini showroom?

Making coffee at the park is nice but being outdoors is better suited for a barbeque.

Wait I don't have the "entire" starbucks in my boot- I don't have the cookies... yet

4 am? I think you're both actually robots.

Hmm... a sink? Jeez - you're picky!

I thinka picnic / BBQ / potluck would be a lot of fun. We'd have to find a spot where we could park our collection of Minis... ahem... our "pod" of Minis though. Gotta keep all the little critters in one area or they'll run off!

2am?4am?5am? What's the difference? It's all pretty dark until the sun comes up. (see the evil red eyes-staring)

Baristas need a sink. I cannot produce quality with working conditions that do not allow the finest products to be created. I am an artist-what can I say?
I think you will have to actually taste my java before you can make your final decision so let's put that on our list of things to do. I had even thought of bringing the espresso maker to the Spring Fling.
In the end I ran out of space because I brought about everything except the kitchen sink- and we already determined that the sink was a requirement for good espresso. Oh well-maybe next time.

Beastmaster-
check out the espresso thread I posted above and near the end of it I talk about doing-
mods to my barista machine to make it look like a mini-just like Monster garage but
more like Mini garage for small appliances

By the way- you don't "feel" like a Robot? Do you? I don't.
Not since they removed my positronic pinky brain.
It was all plastic parts and blinking lights so coffee was never an issue.

Hi guys--meets at MofH (which does have an espresso or capp machine) or the park would be fine.

I was at Mini of Universal City (said hi to Darrel's friend Charles Chinda, who sent a great big aloha back) and they had a dozen or so Minis including a VR/VR and a Gold/Gold to look at. The gold was okay--not as garish as I thought it would be--but I wouldn't want to own it. A potential owner roared out of the dealership on a test drive while I was there with a huge grin on her face.

I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and they have a book pub. in the UK, of Cars in Movies. Under a variety of Mini models, they included the following (mostly UK) films in addition to the ones we all know about:

Nurse on Wheels (1963) Juliet Mills
The Sandwich Man (1966) Michael Bentine
The Fast Lady (1962) Leslie Phillips
Alfie (1966) Michael Caine
Robbery (1967) Stanley Baker
Goodbye Pork (1981) (New Zealand) Clint Eastwood

All feature Minis.

I'll post these on the main MiniTalk board for the edification of all
Sylvia

If anyone could find movies with Minis, it'd be you

"The Sandwich Man"... love the title!

Welcome back Sadie-
You were missed- we had to have the party at Mini of HI anyway because it was
"the right thing to do". We could show any of those movies as long as the movie rating was not much worse than PG. Real people might come into the show room and we would not want to have something happening on the big wide screen that would scare people away. You're right. I will admit that because I make each shot of espresso with "love" I will be "slower"
(also known as methodical) than the machine. "Quality before quantity" as they say.
In the end- YUM YUM

Hmmm. I see a white jacket with long arms in your future, sir. You know...the "give yourself a hug" kinda jacket that is usually accompanied by soft speaking but very large persons in white hospital uniforms.

Eh !!! Did you know that this was just a practice for the
first MINI gathering??? Neh! just kidding. Only the MINI
Motorers can get away with that! MINI is suppose to be
spontaneous and exciting. That's the fun of it.

Thank you all for your support. Everything turn out the
way it supposed to be.
