Spoke to Darrell this afternoon and this is the scoop. MINI of Hawaii asked about a Premiere of The Italian Job, but Consolidated said a Premiere is up to the studio, this being Paramount Pictures.

However, Darrell is still trying to do something for IJ. What would help is to get a list of potential attendees for IJ. This would be so Darrell would know how many to expect.

 

Now would this be only MINI owners or "potential attendees"?

If owners only, count is 2.
Potential attendees, count is 100 ...just kidding....maybe 5

 

I'm a Hollywood veteran, and yes, premieres are up to the studio, and there is really no reason for them to have one here. They're usually just in LA, NY and London plus anyplace associated with the film. Which is why I was surprised when Aka said Darrell said the premiere was on Wednesday, the 28th, here.

If we only had a national organization, they could coordinate with the studio (who would likely be cooperative), and there could be Mini rallys nationwide on the film's opening day.

I'll be happy to contact Paramount about promotional materials, but it's up to Consolidated as to what they will permit and/or encourage at their theatre.

However, there's nothing saying we can't buy a bunch of tickets, and drive around the theatre a half-dozen times in convoy with our emergency flashers going before the showing that Friday around 7 pm, then park and see the film. As the time approaches, we can get a list of who's coming.

It would be nice if we all got there early for a boot party, then maybe Consolidated would cone off our spaces for the drive-around, so we could then park again and see the movie.

I think that's exactly what Darrell is trying to accomplish for the MINI owners. Promo matrials would be great and if you could get a set for MINI, I'm sure Darrell would be most appreciative.

The dealership tells me that it will likely be by invitation only due to limited space maybe 100. Not all details worked out yet. Maybe a chance to make it bigger. If limited in size then will be only to mini owners (two tickets each). :evil:

I just bought the old Italian Job movie from ebay from someone from England but it doesn't work on my VCR. Someone said it was a region 2 video and I asked what is a region 2 video. I still want to get the old movie. Where can I get a copy for a good price. I've noticed that the region free movie of the old Italian Job are being bidded for almost $50 on ebay.

studios release their dvd on different continents with different dates, and there are different region coding for dvd in different part of the world, region 2 coding is used mostly in europe as region 1 is used here in the states. in order to view a region 2 coded dvd, you will need to play it with a region 2 capable dvd player or a region free capable dvd player.

as for the original old italian job dvd that starred michale caine, yes, it's been release in europe for quite some time already, and i believe it will be released here in the states sometimes in fall this year, so if you can wait a bit, you should be able to just buy it here in the states.

i meant to say in order to view a region 2 coded dvd, you will need to either play it with a region 2 dvd player or a dvd player that can play ALL region coded dvd. a side note, if the dvd has been coded "ALL region", then you can play it with any kind of dvd player regardless.

Gotta get scrambling to free up time for May 29th. I work off island and often with a 14 hour work day including travel so might have to do some major surgery to my travel times like leave at 520am in order to get back for the 6pm viewing. Still I would like to go.

Fantastic!!! ...although it looks like I won't be able to attend ... this month I am working from 4am to Noon and have the "wonderful" days of Monday / Tuesday off. Doh! Looks like I'll miss the super-secret-squirrel premier. I can probably make it down for the parade laps around the block though!

I keep telling everyone that when we drive our Minis we are the opposite of invisible.
We might as well have a HUGE beacon on our roofs saying-
"Here I am- Look at ME" - It's really true folks you cannot be annonymous any longer in a mini.

 

are we supposed to receive something from Mini of HI? I've sent my email in twice now but haven't received any email about movie showing.

 

Try calling MINI of HI. I think they're too busy to answer any email.

 

Attention all IJ fans-

Just got a call from the Mini Of HI dealership with the info on IJ showing. Each owner and one guest is invited to the show and invitations are waiting for you at the dealership. Wait for them to call you or you can call them.
We will meet at 6pm on thursday May 29th and the show will start at 7pm at the Resturant Row theaters.

Minihune is right - you can either wait for them to call you or you can call them. In any case, you have to pick up the packet at M of HI. There's a whole event schedule and driving participation that may last into the wee hours. You might want to take Friday off!

 

Oh Yeah-
I forgot to say that there are a bunch of events that night besides seeing the movie. There will be drive after the movie and we can all get out there. Wear your mini attire or IJ T shirts if you have them. If I pick up my invitation soon like tomorrow then I will try to post some of the details to entice you all to try to attend. I work in Hilo that day and will still try to make it back to Oahu in time to enjoy. , Yes you may leave your SUV (da otha kar) at home-Thank you very much

 

Got my packet! Li'l Beast is decked out in an IJ antenna ball and an IJ sticker! Unfortunately, I'm being called to Cali this week, but I hope to be back for the Hawaii Premiere on Thursday.

 

Unfortunately, I just got my plane reservations to return and I am coming back on Thursday evening @ 9 pm. Maybe I can catch up to you guys on your cruise. Gotta get the FRS radio!

If you arrive about 9pm we can come and all drive down to the airport in Mass and come and pick you up! We will drive the airport curbside parking staff crazy. We were going to go crusing around to Waikiki anyway but who says we can't cruise all the way down to the airport. Got to find a way to get your LiL beast down there or at least pick you up to take you home. This will require a little more planning. When do you leave?
