Superlap
I encourage everyone to come out and may be even running your Mini. Just come out and have fun and learn car control at the same time. You can run at your own pace if you're a beginner like me, remember we're all beginner at some point. Come out and have fun
Super Lap Series reminder :
1) There will be some rule changes posted tonight on the Super Lap site.
2) Vehicle numbers will carryover from 2005 season; therefore, bgrpph is 1F, dakinemini is 8F, eastsidemini is 14F, and blown-lone-star is 51F. 2006 new drivers will be assigned new numbers. Mike K. was saying that if you want to trade numbers with someone, and they agree, you must notify the Super Lap Series folks and they can make the changes.
Five more days and counting!

New Rules

2006 SLS New Classification Rules
For the 2006 SLS series, we will be introducing a new classifcation system. The system is as follows:
5 Categories:
Time Battle = GROUP A.
Bracket Racing = Group B, C, D.
Group “A” - 39.99 second and faster cars
Group “B” - 40.00 to 40.99
Group “C” - 41.00 to 41.99 seconds
Group “D” - 42.00 and slower.
Unlimited -Unlimited (Race Cars Only- non-streetable cars)
New entries will automatically be placed in Group “D” and drivers who want to step down in class will be allowed to do so. Points will be awarded from 1st through 8th places with the following awards:
1st – 12 points
2nd – 9 points
3rd – 7 points
4th – 5 points, then 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively for 5th thru 8th place.
Everyone starts with 0 points. If at any time a driver “breaks out” of his group (goes quicker than his classification) he can move up to the next class, but will be required to sacrifice ½ of his accumulated points, alternatively should he choose to remain in his current classification he may do so, but must forfeit all points earned in the “breakout” event. Racers will have to decide upon time submittal what their course of action is if they "breakout".
We think that this will promote fairness in competition no matter what kind of car someone drives and it encourages progression, while not penalizing those who don’t want to step up.

i'll be there- not sure that the new groupings make sense. if it looks like rain i'll keep my street SO3 on, if not its the balding RA1s.
Andrew- i 've heard the RA1s are good in the wet if they have tread.

Talked to Andrew today about RA1s in "real" rain.
<That was basically him and his wife on H1 hydroplaning on RA1s!
Suppose to be good on wet track but not rainy streets!
boating experience
It was very scary driving in the heavy rain with the RA-1s, felt like a boating experience when trying to drive straight
the car was hydroplaning big time and I had to slow down to 40mph on H-1 just to stay in control. I guess we just can't get the best of both world with tires
but I still like them

Looks like the weather folks were right as I look out my window it's SUNNY in Kapolei!
Here's a link to updated weather : Jan. 28th Super Lap weather.I just need to get better - been fighting a cold since Monday evening.
bgrpph - sorry I couldn't make it today man. Took some Nyquil and knocked out for a while.
blone-lone-star - just heard your VM. I don't think we ever had rain during SLS - so don't know; though, I wouldn't run in the rain. They did have a W2W (same folks ran it) event that got rained-on and they continued.
Only three events left?
Based on today's article in the Honolulu Advertiser, if Mike O. does close the track at the end of March or early April, we will only have three Super Lap events left!
Mark your calendars for these precious dates :
Jan. 28th (Saturday) < safe date
Feb. 25th (Saturday) < safe date
Mar. 25th (Saturday) < safe date
Apr. 22nd (Saturday) < past the close date that Mike O. stated
Right now the sky is clear and the forecast is clear so I'll see you folks at the track tomorrow!

Fellow SLSers,
I put my track tires on tonight and looked up to the skies above Kapolei and they were full of stars so it looks like we are a GO!

Great MINI turnout today!
The rain from the past few days was gone and it was a nice day - not too hot, nice breeze, and no bugs!
Bgrpph (Barry), eastsidemini (Andrew), blown-lone-star (Casey), and dakinemini (Dirk) arrived early to take part in another great outing at Super Lap. Feedback (Peter) arrived early to watch and hang-out most of the morning - good meeting you! Thanks for bringing the tent again Andrew - kept us cool!
I'll post some photos in a while. Both eastsidemini and blown-lone-star showed great improvement by getting their best times today - good job guys!

Cory meets tirewall
Cory T. posted a vid of his meeting with the tirewall today on another forum. Looks worse than it was
as he said damage was minimal. Here it is : Miata -vs- Tirewall
Felt pretty good.
My problem was brakes.
