Gas mileage locally...
sitting at 500 total miles on my mcs odometer... filled up today.... 9.38 gals at 220.1 miles on trip = 23.5 mpg average... this is barely motoring in traffic morning and evening for about 9 miles downtown and burning around town on the weekends....
I am hoping this gets higher after the 1200 mile "break-in"...
Pyratio..you figure yours out yet?

MCS Auto mileage
--My auto eats a lot more gas than a manual. So far it's been averaging between 18 and 20mpg. But there has been a lot of sitting around in a parking lot with the A/C tho. Due to showing off car to friends and family in the rain. I do work in sand island too so I hit the heavy downtown traffic on my way to the east side. 30 minutes to traverse 8 miles. Pretty ridiculous. Hopefully it'll get better. My optimistic range-o-meter predicts 320 miles to my next refill. We'll see. I am at 120miles on my tripmeter and I'm at 2/3 tank or 3/4 full if you beleive the gauge

my MINI is pretty new as well, and i have it broken in. dont expect the milage to get much better. I have mostly traffic miles on most of my tanks, when i sprinkle in some highway i usually get 23 miles to the gallon.

i have 2600 on my MCS and my last tank my genius OBC said i got 21 mpg my mad calculation skills said i got 20! this was 262 miles 90 of which were highway, i did drive aggresive for probably 70 miles, but the rest of the time i was easy goin, and tryin to get good mpg's... i think part of the bad mpg could be because of the ethanol the "man" is putting in the petrol. from some more mad calculations and such around 20% in mpgs can be lost. most of the time that high octane ratings are made by mixing ethanol with the gas, but the ethanol doesn't have as much energy as petrol, so you have a gas that has a high octane level but low in energy. this could be why some cars dyno numbers differ from time to time, high hp with no ethanol in the gas lower hp with ethanol in the gas???
I've got just a smidge over 500 miles on my MCS and am getting 27-28 MPG (by the OBC's computations) in city driving.
I've been pretty good about following break-in procedure so far and have been trying to shift around 3,000 rpms and not accelerate too quickly.

In Hawaii we have-
Lots of urban driving with plenty of stop lights.
Lots of gridlock and stop and go traffic during rush hour(s).
Some highways but not very many long stretches to really make higher mpg a reality.
Lots of up and down driving going through mountanous areas.
Limited speed limits as low as 45 and as high as 60 mph on the freeways.
After 25,000 miles I usually get about 25-27 mpg in mixed driving.
When I checked a long time ago when my MCS was stock I got as much as 33 mpg doing mostly highway driving at the "speed limit".
With urban driving expect closer to about 20-22 mpg.

i was talking to my uncle who was an ol' school vet guy. he mentioned that i should drop this mothball tablets to increase mileage and improve performance. do we still have this stuff locally? or should i go to walmart and buy a box of mothballs...
I'm at about 900 miles and have averaged from 24.7 to 25.7mpg by my calculations, each tank improving slightly. I'm following break-in procedures, barely, and drive about 50/50 highway/city. I expect mpg will go down a bit once we are out of break-in.

They not only smell "good"
The mothballs DO work to raise octane (a little) and mpg.
Don't forget the "stick"
hahaha
and i thought it was the beer talking. but my next question is on the site, it mentions
Place moth ***** in gas tank before fueling the car. Also add 1ounce of WD40 per gallon of gasoline.
now how the hell do a put WD-40 into my MCS?? eh

Louis, they sell the liquid mothball stuff at Crestek on Hauoli Street. It is under the name Samurai something. There are 2 sizes and the bigger one is like $30 or so for 32 ounces. Add 2 oz to your tank on the first 3 times. Thereafter, 1 oz. I added this to my 540i along with a couple gallons of 100 octane gas and the car ran a 14.07 on a full tank. Not bad for a 2 ton car.

heard that too..
--Yeah actually I've heard that from a few of my old school racer friends too. They say it ups the octane level or improves the power and fuel efficiency of the fuel. They used to drop a whole bunch in the tank before hitting the tracks or when they knew they'd be drag racing. They're old school mustang drivers though. Not so sure how good that would be on the sensitive BMW/MINI injectors. Dunno. I'll just stick to my supreme fuel and try to drive a little slower.
Okay who am I kidding? I LOVE the sound of my supercharger!

Last year I averaged 18mpg. This year about 24 with more freeway driving, with no difference after pulley install--reasonable for a 2700lb car. Last time I looked, both WD-40 (available in liquid form in gallon cans at hardware stores) and mothballs (which were the ineffective para-dichlorobenzene not napthalene) cost a lot more than gasoline.
I recall that Grassroots Motorsports tested commercial octane boosters and found that while they generally worked, each claimed "point" increase on the bottle actually always worked out to ~1/10th octane increase. Mixing in *lots* of 114 octane toluene or 117 octane xylene works a lot better, and though they also cost a lot more than gas, it's way cheaper than using effective doses of the commercial products.
Remember though that high octane won't help at all unless you are running lots of boost or timing! Aggressive timing, like anything that makes the engine run hotter, tends to improve fuel economy and reduce HC and CO emissions, but increase NOx emissions.

kewel light at the end of the tunnel
--Yay! I am right behind you in miles. Hope I can catch up in mpg. Has anyone watched the live consumption thingy on your computer? I watched it go from 12mpg too 60mpg and I was alternating engine speed or ground speed. Weird. Hmmm maybe I should read the drivers manual. Maybe then I could operate the cruise control.

update at 8000 miles
--Well despite being on the road for nearly 4 months this year I finally got to my annual oil change with only 7500 miles on the odometer. I took a celebration drive around the island circling it from Aeia, going up to the North Shore, and then circling through windward side, rolling past Sandys and then back home. Only burned up 100 miles.
Took another jaunt today to drop off my rent in Millilani. Burned another 40 miles. Since the price of premium on base dropped a little I decided to top off the thank and got the following results.
277 miles - filled her up with 11 gallons
That comes out to 25.18 miles per gallon. Yay!
That's the highest my MCSa has ever gotten. This tank included that hell hole of Halloween night where I spent a half an hour to get 3 miles to an off ramp westbound on the H-1. It was about 50% city/gridlock driving and 50% highway wide open road driving.
The computer (pessometer as I call it) still only called 21mpg but I've grown to check it out as an opinion reading rather than fact.
I've read throughout the forum that after 7500 to 9500 miles many people's MINIs started to get way better gas mileage. I'm hoping this is by design, and it's permanent. I'll keep y'all posted.
