Hi folks! I'll be in Honolulu from March 6th for a week to teach a class. Sadly, no Mini with me but I will be around and probably snapping some photos of the island. Any meets going on? I wouldn't mind meeting you guys. (I promise not to park the rental nearby )

 

hafid!!!! That's sooooo cool! I hope you're bringing your camera! i for one, am very excited and hope the club can do something during the time you are here. If you take some pics here, I'll be very interested to see Honolulu and Hawaii's MINIs through your shots!

It would be great to get together while you are visiting. On March 6th we have at Hawaii Raceway Park in Kapolei, the SCCA 2004 run off Driver's championships. The top drivers from each class have 3 runs to try to earn top spot in their Solo II class. Registration early, about 800am. That's followed by modified fun runs in the afternoon for $10. Any driver with a helmet can do fun runs for the same price. Registration at about 1130am for funruns. See http://sccahawaii.org/runoff.html

You're coming in on sunday but if you can find your way over to HRP and bring your camera we'll have a few MINIs out there.

I'm staying near the airport. Would love to meet up for dinner some night! Since I'm teaching it's very casual. I'll get out around 4-4:30pm each day. Teaching at Fort Shafter. I'm bringing the camera and hopefully the tripod.

When do you leave on the 12th? There going to be a BMWCCH Island Drive and Picnic on the 12th. It should start @ 10am.

wow, i guess we are on the same flight! i believe the best views of the islands are on the right side of the plane. you won't really see much since it'll be after sunset, just mostly the city lights. and oahu, which has the most lights of the islands, will mostly be seen on the right side. this is just based on past experience of going to school and stuff. i think i'm in 15f.

btw, i heard that aa doesn't serve food anymore. well, none that's included in the airfare. so i'm probably gonna hafta grab something at lax.
i'll be with 1 or 2 friends, as we're flying up to take an exam.

 

that's hilarious! what exam are you going to hawaii to take?? a surfing one?

I'm in 13a right now but i'm going to try and change seats or upgrade to 1st class since it's a long flight.

 

1st class on the right side of the plane is the way to go, definitely!

hmmm...i have heard a number of years back that texas had the first ever wave pool machine that made a pretty decent pitching wave. otherwise, i think i've seen pics of texas surfers catching the wake from passing liners and tankers. now that i've never done, but i think that'd be pretty cool to try out.

a few of us physical therapists in hawaii is flying up to take a certification exam in mechanical diagnosis and therapy, aka mckenzie method. so unfortunately, it's pretty much an all-business trip.

but it's always cool to come back home and check out the sights from the air!

 

good news! i'm there for two weeks now so will be staying over that weekend i was supposed to leave. woohoo!

 

OK, that's great. Save saturday 3/12, you can join me for a round the island rally with the BMW CCA that day. We will get more details later but we usually start about 9am in town and head out to scenic points. We can meet early and grab a bite to eat first.

 

Brad - We changed the date to Sunday the 13th so Dale could lead us.

minihune! sounds fantastic! I keep hearing though this second week may not happen unless the Army can rearrange their training rooms to accomodate me. I'll keep you posted either way!
