I'm also happy that I found a good MINI shop in Motor Werks. Gerard runs a good business and I'm glad I have options for work after the warranty goes south in four years.

Aloha!

No problem as I like working on cars. Did that noise go away? It really freaked me out as I did the right side and have never had a problem in the past.

Beast-

All good to go! The brake clicking was gone in about a day or so, just as Gerad said it would after break-in.

Everything is working great!

Aloha and thanks again!

hey jcw04,

is the clicking the same thing i had with my mini? i had the stage one brake upgrade with front brembos and rear ebc greenstuff pads. for the first few days i had a clicking, particularly at idle or sometimes when inbetween shifts at low speeds. it seemed to be lessening the first few days. i'll see tomorrow how it is though since i was off-island from thursday to monday.

and beastmaster, is it ok if i come on over some day to gets some help with my front pads? and do you happen to have any of that anti-squeal stuff too?

What's the problem with the pads? The clicking is the pads getting bedded in with your new rotors. It makes the noise because the sharp edges of the slots need to mate with the pads. And no, I don't have the Raybestos stuff.

I forgot about that. One thing I hate is working on HOT brakes. You could always call Gerard to have him install them.

Try HIP and get the Raybestos brand. Clean off the calipers and the retaining bracket and then use the Raybestos on the areas where metal will contact metal. In particular, the area where the ears of the pads sit in the retainer.

I've been having luck with the CRC stuff (both paste and spray type). No matter what you use though, the heat from track use will have you re-applying the stuff again.

The SPI kit has been getting some bad press lately. Seems like anyone who does the install other than the kit "maker" has the potential to run into trouble. Either that or you need to get new pistons with the SPI kit. I have months to go until I look into it anyways. Until then I will try out the cosworth head

KB-

Hope your clicking is gone and broken in. As for me, I am enjoying the lack of brake dust. Not gone entirely but down by more than 50% .

Aloha!

just got my front ebc greens installed by barry and me assisting. interesting how the front driver's side wheel got stuck on the hub in < 2 weeks. didn't hafta bust out the mallet or anything, but it did take a bit of kung fu kicks to get it off. i think i'm gonna hafta get some anti-seize stuff before they start freezing with the cold winter weather over here.

and i did the beddin stuff right by the hi kai golf course. that in itself was fun. especially passing back and forth by the bikers like 3-4x. probably thought i was drunk or something. i was able to get like 4 runs each way from 50-20 and then 60-20 about 2x one way before cruising by sandys to check out the waves and babes. each way got to smell a bit of brake burning. but no brake clicking!

btw, barry and i figured out that the clicking/squeaking/rattling noise is more from the middle-rear rather than the front, likely exhaust-related. so i stuck my foot on the exhaust while at idle, and whaddya know, the noise stopped. as soon as i took off my toasted foot, the noise started up again. nah, luckily i had my slippers on at the time.

now, i just gotta give my wheels a good wash and i should be able to not do a wheel wash for like a few months before they turn color, hopefully...

thanks again barry. btw, i drank the two starbucks coffee bottles and was almost juiced up enuff to drive around the island to bed-in my new pads. but luckily at the top by hanauma bay i saw the waves down along kalanianaole hwy calling out to me.
