I talked to Eric about the catch can. It's a generic type product that serves a function so as long as it fits and looks OK, then you can use any style you want. Ebay.com has them all the time and M7 makes one in addition to the Alta can. Some are cheap while others are pricey.

Give Eric a call, he can order for you or talk to Eastsidemini.

Save July 8th-12th

OK, I talked to Eric today and we nailed down some dates in fiberglass.

He is willing to travel on thursday July 7th
And do the installs from friday July 8th through the weekend to
Monday or tuesday July 11-12th if needed depending on how the schedule fills up.

We have two groups that want to upgrade.
A bunch of new pulley installs and
those with pulley upgrades- adding GIAC, switching to larger injectors and swapping to smaller pulleys.

I'm still taking names of anyone interested. Sorry we could get dates before June as I had hoped and I know that some of you are leaving soon for reassignment/deployment or summer.

I will try to contact each person on my list to get confirmation on the new dates. You can also send me email about what you wish to do.
minihune2000@yahoo.com

We are also hoping that more upgrades will be ready by July. If you need to order anything big- please allow shipping time so that the parts are here by the beginning of July so they can be installed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

See post #27 of this thread for an update.

OK, I'm making up a schedule and still looking for a possible site with a LIFT!

Having the lift will save some time. Let me know if you have any sources.

Otherwise if Eric has to do installs on his back for stuff like suspension, brakes, exhausts, and short shifters, it's gonna take more time to do and cost more in labor than need be.

We will start from Friday July 8th and work from there through the weekend.

Still taking a few more names if space is available.

New pulley upgrades, upgrades from 15% pulleys up to 19%, even if you have your own parts.

Just let me know.

a place to tinker

Howsit,
I asked about the Theater again.
I was told the shop might be full of set under construction.
There has been some management change also.
So the earlier window might be lost.
If no other options appear I can do some further research.
I know a place w/ a lift would be best.

It is true. I spoke to my mechanic about it and he was willing. I then turned over the reigns to Brad. However, it turned out that he was also helping the relay for life that weekend. From what I hear, 1 lift will be available on Friday and possibly on Monday if needed to finish stuff up.

Yes, I met with a shop owner that is willing to allow us a lift for Friday July 8th. So I am looking through the list of those that need a lift and making up a schedule for the day. I'll go over the schedule and time slots with Helix13.

I'll be setting up the install schedules for Saturday, Sunday and Monday at two other locations in town and in Mililani. Monday is an optional day at the shop with a lift if needed.

Many thanks to Gerard at Motorwerks and to Bryan for his help. We were not able to schedule the shop for saturday and sunday due to a conflict with a prior committment.

So this opportunity presents an excellent DIY teaching session for MINI owners that want to learn more about how to do various installs and upgrades. We are very open to allowing observation- please give me a PM if interested.

We did also contact other shops but nothing else panned out at this time. Many thanks to all who helped.

schedules being made now

Hawaii Folks,

This is your last chance to sign up for a pulley upgrade while Eric from Helix13 is in town from July 8th to 11th.

See post #27 in this thread for an update.
Some prices got changed due to increases in cost for parts and some install prices were lowered since we were able to secure a lift for some of the days.

We can have a potluck barbeque on sunday afternoon at the Tiresdirect shop in Salt Lake (old costco tire shop location).

Please note that for July 8th friday there is very limited parking at Motorwerkes on Cummins and Kawaiahao so please park at Ward centers and walk over. We can give you a ride back if needed.

Contact me so I can add you to the schedule ASAP- it's filling up really fast.

OK, everything is in place for the Hawaii Pulley party to begin this friday and run over the weekend until monday night.

We will have a Barbeque potluck at Tiresdirect on sunday from around lunch time on to dinnertime.

Feel free to join us.

I'm starting a new thread on the potluck in the HMMC forum for sunday july 10th.

I was able to take a few late comers so give me an email if you are interested in participating in the upgrades.

Schedule is changed

Yesterday went very well-
We were all day at Motorwerks.

Today we are in Palolo Valley

Tomorrow we are at Tiresdirect and everyone is invited to drop by to say hello, socialize and check out the nice rims and tires for MINIs.

Then on Monday we are moving things back to Motorwerks
(518 cummins at Kawaihao near ward and Kapiolani)
Parking is very limited- try ward centers and walk over- just a few blocks.

Mahalo to Motorwerks and Tiresdirect!

I cannot express enough thanks to Motorwerks in Honolulu and Tiresdirect in Salt Lake for allowing use of their lifts for our Pulley party.

Many thanks to all of you that helped out along the way or came out to visit with us.

A huge thanks to Eric for jumping on a plane for a long trip out here and for working with us through "thick and thin". At times it was challenging but we learned alot and managed to survive.

For those in Hawaii that are interested in maintenance work for out of warranty MINIs, or performance upgrades, wheels, tires, or for anything else for your cars- please feel free to contact me.

Sure. But not for a few months, OK? That was an intense four days.

By the last day we were working better (like a race team).
Practice. Practice. Practice.
Good job.

Now, those of you who own an MC and desire a turbo kit installed in Hawaii- just drop me a line and I will keep tabs on new developments out in MINI turbo land and I keep you informed when and where it might happen.

And those of you that think 19% reduction pulleys are for grandmas and want to upgrade to twin charged (supercharger and turbo in a kit)- just drop me a line and I will keep tabs on new developments out in MINI turbo land and I keep you informed when and where it might happen.

That's what you'll look like when you try the twin charged MCS!

It was great seeing everyone, and checking out other MINIs. I have a good idea on the other mods i want now. The 19% I have is a huge difference, exept I still have to shift at 4000 rpm Oh well in a short while, I will be revvin to high heaven listening to the sounds of that sweet supercharger.

OK, just strap a couple of rockets on your cabrio and away you go.

For the MC the turbo kit needs R&D. The hardware for the turbo exists, the tuning of the software and further refinement of fitment for the parts requires work.

For the MCS the turbo kit from Helix13 is about $4800 for parts and takes about 12 hours labor to install.
Not a small job.

Did Eric install a turbo kit while he was over here? If so who is the lucky recipient?

Aloha folks!-

I had a BLAST! It was great getting to meet Eric, he is one cool dude. I want to say a big MAHALO to Minihune for putting this together, not an easy task. Thanks too to Beast and friends for the "free" labor!

I'm also happy that I found a good MINI shop in Motor Werks. Gerard runs a good business and I'm glad I have options for work after the warranty goes south in four years.

Aloha!

No turbo kit this trip.

Hopefully to make another trip worth the effort, we are looking for a few owners willing to install:
A turbo kit in an MC
A turbo kit in an MCS

If any others want to join in then great.
We have to wait a little to get the turbo kit for the MC worked out while the turbo for the MCS has been installed several times over at Helix13 this summer. The installs are quite extensive and take about 15 hours of labor each. Hopefully we can get fabrication of parts minimized for individual installs as this will reduce time for installation.

Aloha all-

I spoke with Eric about the turbo kits on Monday. He said that he has installed six so far and number seven goes in when he gets back from Hawai'i.

I'm playing with the idea of shipping my car up when the warranty ends, having the install done and then driving back to the West coast for the boat ride home.

Aloha!

that will cost you about 3 grand in shipping fees (2K to east coast and 1K from cali back to honolulu). We should just get him back over here. I may be ready for a turbo kit as early as december, and would be interested in having hom come back out. I had family visiting this month so couldn't join you guys but glad it went well.

I agree, shipping is pretty darn expensive both ways across the big pond.
Honolulu to Philly ain't too close.

peterwhit,
If you are really serious about a turbo kit then please do keep in touch and if an earlier time frame is what you seek we need to get planning sooner rather than later. It's never too early to get the ball rolling. I would need a serious committment from all sides. Sorry to hear you were busy that weekend.

twincharge

Peter
If you are gonna spend the dough, get the SPI twincharge. Compare the two and you know what I mean. Don't just waste your money. I know at least 3 people or shops that can install any turbo kits. No need to pay the guy to come down and take your money then leave.
