GR-Lock Review

Got me 2 GR-Locks on thursday and did a couple days of driving with them so far. This is a cheap mans 4 point harness. While it isn't as good it is much cheaper and will keep you in your seat.

With it attached and pulled tight I don't move at all.

It is very easy to install, took about 15 minutes from opening to getting it on the belt. Only problem (and they say after some usage it will go away) is that it's off position doesn't work very well atm. IE it stays tight unless you put more effort into then you should have to, according to the manual.

Cost is 40 and 5 for shipping.

Also I picked up 2 of them so if someone is interested in trying the other out for a few days let me know.

DaKineMini has the CG lock, too. I gave him one and he's gonna do a review of it for BMWCCH's newsletter.

Don't forget, if you plan to do a DE, BMW CCA has an equal restraint rule, so the driver and passenger MUST have the same type of harness/seat belts.

I've had mine for about 6 months now and find it works pretty well. I would still prefer a tighter cross strap but this is better than just stock.

I do some BMW schools and had Scrothe 4 point but they made me stop using them as i didn't have 1/2 cage. Now they have changed that rule but I already sold the harnesses.

Our chapter doesn't require I have the CG Lock on both sides but some of the instructors have their own and just clip it on for any car they get into - which is a pretty clear endorsement

bgrpph ran the last auto-x with CG-Lock. He has two for the "equal restraint rule" so he's set.

I presently use CG-Lock for daily driving and love not having to do the "twisty" thing anymore. Definitely keeps the lower half planted at all times! Haven't used the lock in extreme conditions yet, however, not sure if it could replace the security of a harness (which keeps the upper body from flying around too).

I got two CG locks so passenger could also be secure at superlap (not that i've taken a passenger yet). I've not used a harness so can't compare but i do like the CG, it holds you in place. I used it Sat at superlap and loved it, nice and tight. CG & new 225/45-15 AVON Tech R performed great. 41.5 on short course.

no problem...just give me a call whenever's. no rush.

hey bgrpph, i'm about ready to order some 15's too. but for everyday use.

what kinda wheels you got? i'm looking at the minilites for the classic smaller wheel style. only thing is they come in 15x6. but alex assured me 205/55 es 100s should fit fine.

Kbseto- i have SSR comps 15 X 7- very light. Why are you going with 15 for street? i thought your 16' were great when i drove your car- it rode really well.

i guess cause i'm bored and am ready for something new on my mini. and i like the smaller wheel look. and those white asa lw5's are just killing me every time i wash'em. takes me close to 1/2 hour to clean those guys, even with eagle one wheel cleaner, which still requires some agitation to get the brake dust off. i've carefully checked out the pics of the minilites, and they look like they're about as easy to clean as the 17" s-lites.

i'm hoping i'll still retain much of the ride qualities of the 16's, but with a more classic look.

and if i'm lucky, my brother will wanna buy my 16's.

kyle - You could always upgrade your brakes if you're bored. Some nice slotted rotors with relatively dust free pads will save you a lot of cleaning time.
