Hawaii Road Rally Events- Any car, bring your family!
SCCA Hawaii region is trying to bring the fun of Road Rallys back to Hawaii.
People used to do rallys years ago but it died out over the years.
We did have a successful event about 2 years ago, some 30+ cars with drivers and navigators drove about 50 miles while keeping track of their speeds (limited to speed limit of the roads), distance, and time plus they had to answer questions along the way.
Now we have the next event which takes place over a half day and ends with lunch (you pay for your own meal/drinks) at Schooner's overlooking Pearl Harbor.

SCCA - Hawaii Region - Rally
Sunday, March 23, 2014
Streets of Honolulu, Honolulu, HI
The Hawaii Region of the Sports Car Club of America will be sanctioning their first Road Rally of the 2013-2014 Season on Sunday, March 23, 2014. The Road Rally will be held on city streets in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Registration and Tech Inspection start at 8AM, Drivers Meeting at 9AM and first car out around 9:30AM. Lunch about 1100-1115 am at Schooner's.
Meet in the large parking lot of the state park at the Tantalus Lookout area.
Come early for the view.
While the event is not a spectator event (i.e. SCCA Hawaii Rally won't charge for viewing), we know that you may want to bring your family and friends to ride along. Each participating vehicle will be allowed one “navigator” and other vehicle occupants are allowed. All vehicle occupants must sign a waiver and fill out a SCCA Weekend Membership form. For this event SCCA Weekend Membership fees are waived for volunteers and passengers.
Registration fees are $20 for current SCCA members and $20 for all others. There is a no minimum pre-registered participant requirement to hold the event and maximum participants will be held to 30 vehicles.
Only checks or money orders payable to SCCA Hawaii-Rally will be accepted at the event.
Please note that the non-member fee includes an SCCA Weekend membership and will give you a $15-discount towards full SCCA membership, which includes a subscription to SportsCar (our national magazine).
Car clubs and groups are invited to participate but there is a limit of 30 cars for the event.

I would take my MINI & my Tacoma to all islands...plus my parents live on Oahu so I could have "driven" up for the weekends and holidays.

Yes, meet at 8am at the Tantalus lookout parking lot area.
You also need to submit your lunch choice as you cannot buy a lunch at the finish, Schooner's is taking pre-orders at $17 each person and will make lunches to order (5 choices).
See you on sunday.

The route ends at Schooners Restaurant at the USS Arizona. Each person should pre-order lunch, since the restaurant will not allow us to order from the menu the day of the event. It would make it easier on their kitchen staff.
Each lunch option is $17 and includes a soft drink and tip.
A. Admiral's Chicken Sandwich chicken breast, avocado, mushrooms with Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheese
B. Braised Beef Rice Bowl boneless short ribs with mushrooms, onion and hoisin sauce
C. Caesar Salad with Fresh Fish croutons, parmesan cheese
D. Hawaiian Kalua Pork Bowl slow roasted Kalua pork with sauteed onions
E. Schooner's Burger with Fries half-pound Certified Angus Beef patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion.
You should respond directly to the email of the Road Rally Chair so that your lunchs can be ordered. Do not contact Schooners.

To contact the Road Rally chair use this email:
Elayne Man <elayne.man@gmail.com>
She needs your lunch orders (driver and navigator and any guests) right away.
$17 per person to be paid to Schooners the day of the event. SCCA handles checks only for event registration and SCCA weekend membership.

When you registered at Motorsportreg.com you had left an email address, go back and check that it is correct. This is the only way the organizer can reach you and you should be getting confirmation and information using this email.

So what did you think of the Road Rally?
I thought the group was good and the size not too large.
Overall I think it was well organized and hope that the participants will consider doing another in the future.
Any thoughts on improvements?

I think it was fun. Great job organizing. Will definately consider going on the next one.
Would recommend running a little longer next time. I used to go with the Mini club in Albany NY and they have the merchants somewhat involed in the places where we stop. Sometimes it is a clue, sometimes to find something there etc. Most of the time, it is a car, historical or scenery location. I am willing to help connecting with the merchants if this is a direction the rally would like to move to.

Doing stops to get info/clues/answers is fine but if there is no place to park and if all the people that have to stop are interfering with business then it can get tough.
One of the criteria for a Road Rally course is to stay away from business areas and residential areas. This usually means most of it is done on open county roads, highways, and if needed rural roads but they cannot be unimproved dirt roads or roads in poor condition.
In a place like Oahu it's going to be hard not to be close to some businesses and residential areas.
If you have a favorite lunch stop place that will take 50-60 people and give us a private room that would be helpful to let us know. Most places don't take reservations for that many during lunch.
