4/25 dealership cruise
in the famous words of DaKineMINI, does MINI of Hawaii = CHICKEN KUKAI?
apparently, there have been two emails sent out recently to MINI owners notifying them of dealership-sponsored events. the first event was the last M&M and now there's an island drive at the end of the month.
funny, i haven't received either of these two emails but have rec'd emails in the past. have i been given the boot from "MINI of Hawaii's Worthy Customers List" ---> and if so, why run away from problems rather than embrace them?
i don't bite. (yes, i do get pissed when you guys mess up.)
EDIT: for the record, DaKineMINI never said that MINI of Hawaii was chicken kukai. i've never heard of "chicken kukai" until i read that thread...but it's now my new favorite phrase. sorry DaKineMINI....hopefully the dealership still treats you respectfully and professionally.

I didn't get an invite either. Perhaps we should just call MINI and ask them what's up.
4. Maybe invites went out to customers that don't change their own oil (inside joke).
5. DaKineMINI bought his car on the mainland, so his info may not be at MoH
btw, what is Chicken Kukai? Is it similar to Chicken Papaya?

If it's hairless chicken, it definitely isn't served at some chinese restaurants I've been to. I swear some of those chickens still had their feathers.
For Boneless Chicken, Richies in Kalihi is the place. $3.75 for two scoops rice, a scoop of mac salad and maybe 4 breaded boneless thighs! Talk about Kanak Attack. Btw, my neighbors own Kanak Attack. Good food. Eat til you sleep!

speaking of kukai...my boss sometime a few years back received a promotional brochure with his name and address on it. only thing is his name is joey aukai. can you guess what they spelled it as? yes, believe it or not, joey kukai...

damn, that's a sunday! Where does it start or end? I'd like to meet up with the group at some point. I heard it was on the 29th....gosh, it would have been nice if I got an email. Maybe I'll swing by to visit KohuulaMINI today and get the scoop.

So anyone got the details for this? I went down to the dealership to ask, but ended up talking story and left without actually getting the details. Can someone post with the times and places so that I can meet up with you folks? Who here is going? I'll probably just show up at the end to see and take pics of the nice minis.
Domo arigato!
Domo arigato!
here's some details...
Aloha MINI Motorers,
Join MINI of Hawaii's first annual "MINI Island Tour" Rally/Cruise.
Here is an opportunity to meet new MINI Enthusiasts,
find out your MINI's cruising capabilities, and see beautiful sites of paradise.
On Sunday, April 25th, we will meet at MINI of Hawaii at 9am, leaving promptly at 10am.
We will tour various locations around the island and meet at out final destination at
Central Oahu District Park where we will serve hotdogs and refreshments.
It is located on Kamehameha Hwy. near Waikele/Waipio.
so...i'm not exactly sure what time is grinding time.
now the word is that the first big summer swell is coming in that weekend and probably will be peaking late saturday or early sunday. so that makes my decision a little tuffer.
but first i gotta fix some things with my mini that were revealed at the recent tech session.

My MINI is in for "servicing" but I will be going anyway. Let me know if you want to go. Meet at the dealership between 9 and 10am and leave promptly at 10am.
sorry just read your post minihune.
anyways, i probably wouldn't have gone anyways as i got up ~7:30, checked a few surf spots and after settling in one, stayed out til lunchtime. grabbed a large shave ice at kokonuts, browsed thru pricebusters, and just got home.
i imaging by this time everybody is heading on down to the park for some grinds and refreshments. it's blazing today. hope everybody uses their sunblock. i did, but i still got toasted from my marathon session.
i'm probably gonna recuperate for the rest of the day.

>>So how did it go?
Pretty good. Record turnout.
The dealership area was packed with wall to wall MINIs.
Headed out about 10:09 after a short briefing.
Didn't stop in waikiki area, just headed out from Ala Moana to Atkinson and out to Kapiolani then on to the freeway in Kaimuki and then Hawaii Kai and sandy beach for a pitstop. Then quickly out to Waimanalo then Kailua then Kaneohe and Windward mall before heading out to Kuuloa park for a pitstop. I counted about 45 MINIs at the parking lot there.
The group split up and some arrived at Kuuloa a little late after going through Lanikai which most of us just passed up. Headed out to Kahuku then Haleiwa and on to the H2 south to waipio park via Kamehameha Hwy.
I'd say the turn out was between 45 and about 50+ MINIs with one classic 68' BRG mini. We had a straight line of 25 to 30 MINIs going at several points without any intruders. I wonder what people were thinking of so many MINIs. Like the Italian Job invasion force.

>>Were you leading the pack in your MINIvan? Or did you borrow a MINI?
Neither I had my maxima SE. I was either in the back of the pack looking for stragglers or running blocking interference to let the group out of tight spots together. Monitoring on the family radio for any happenings.
Went pretty smoothly considering the size of the group. Some splits but we did OK. Took over 3 hours of driving.
I did think as a group we looked really good.
