OK Hawaii members, Spring Fling Tech Session is now going to be a major event on its own! I want to see everyone there, and hopefully we can turn this into a bi-annual event (along with TECH FEST FALL for Aloha 500).

WHAT:BMWCCH SPRING FLING TECH FEST.
WHEN:Saturday April 17 4:30-9:00PM
WHERE:Bavarian Motor Experts Shop on Kawaiaha'o Street.

We will be having the following events:

Tech Session: (for all cars participating in Spring Fling DE)

Car Corral:
(car show with 2 classes for BMW, stock & modified, and one Mini class. Prizes will be awarded for cleanest cars in the BMW classes, and 3 awards for People's Choice, 1 each for the BMW classes and one for Minis)

Detailing Session:
1.5 hour demonstration of proper use of Orbital buffers, waxing and polishing technique, touch up paint application and question/answer session.

Dent Removal Clinic:
Mike will be available to do dent removal on BMWCCA member cars. Mike charges $75 and will make your car dent free (within reason). Space is limited. Price may vary depending on the condition/difficulty of your car, please negotiate with Mike prior to beginning work. You WILL be amazed.

Tech Demonstration:
A BME Technician will demonstrate DIY car maintinence on one of BMEs lifts and answer your BMW-related DIY questions.

Food:
TBD, but we should have a nice array of pupus, and usually a nice keg of beer!

Swap Meet:
Bring in your new/used/unused parts/mods/wheels/BMW memorabilia etc...and set up in our Swap Meet area to buy/sell/trade. Please bring your own blanket or table set up.

I think this can become a great event. Please spread the word and hopefully we can have a great turn out!

If you can help out with chairs/tables/work lights to light the parking lot, or would like to volunteer to help set-up, man the BBQ, bring food or to help judge the car show, please post or PM me. Hope to see everyone there and many new faces too!

Beastmaster,

Thank you for setting this up. Looks great and hope to see you all there.

Another reason to sign up for membership with the BMW Car club of America Hawaii Chapter, it's about $35 per year or $99 or three years and includes discounts to BMWCCA events like Spring Fling and you get a discount on parts at the MINI/BMW dealership and subscription to the monthly publication "the Roundel".

Bring your cameras, lets take pictures.

Not my doing. It's the brainchild of new President, John Pang.

btw, BMW CCA membership will be going up to $40 a year in June I think. So get your memberships in now.

Well it is a great idea to have and thanks for the post so that we know early.
The DIY session would be of interest to MINI owners.
The only bad thing is that there isn't that much parking out front so come down early.

Yup, I'll try to be there, too....for the detailing workshop. I'm definitely gonna take first in the "unofficial" dirtiest car contest. kbseto...you ain't got nottin on me!

I guess I'll sign up to be a BMWCCH member since no MINI club has yet to be established....it's all the same to me, anyways.

Thanks Beastmaster for making this info available to us!

OK, it looks like we will have a bunch of MINIs down there for the tech party but I want you all to know that the rest of you interested MINI owners are also invited.

BMW CCA sponsors other drives or cruises during the year and not only the track events like the Spring Fling.

We would love to have any MINI owners join us and learn more about BMW CCA.

You don't have to be teching your MINI to come to the party.
I really enjoyed watching the dent Dr. guy do his thing nearly in the dark at night with just a little light.
And the final results were really nice. Makes me want to go out and get some nice dents for him to have something to do but I think someone will have some dents already.

>>Would this be worthwhile even if not participating in the Spring Fling? (asked with non-mechanical perspective)
>>

Depending on your interests I do think it would be good thing to drop by and see.
Many of those doing the Spring Fling will bring by their MINIs to be examined and checked by a mechanic. This includes jacking the MINI up on a lift to see it from below.

The DIY talk should also be good and maybe there will be things for sale if any MINI owners want to part with anything.

Also it is a good time to meet others and talk about anything to do with your MINI. I think we will have MCS and MC models present.

So yes you are welcome to join us and be inspired to come to the next event.

Sorry to be a spoiler, but as I am the one involved in the running of this event, we may be taking names on a list as BMWCCH has not done a tech session on this scale before.

The primary reason for the tech session is for cars to be tech'd for Spring Fling. I will have to determine the number of cars that will be able to be tech'd in one day. This will involve working with Voytek and Co. to determine the amount of time alloted to each car. They are giving their time free of charge, so we don't want to overwork them. Also, don't forget, we have to tech BMWs and other makes as well. We may also change the format of teching cars as it is good to have people there while it is done, but questions will also slow down our progress.

Other things to take into consideration is parking as it is limited in the area, and of course food, as BMWCCH is providing the food and beverages for this event.

OK, priority for those that are registered for Spring Fling.
It is a good idea to be more organized if you are thinking there will be 40 entries.
Maybe a list by appointment vs a sign in list once people have arrived then tech them in order of the sign up.
If we know what time we are to be teched then that would also work.

Folks, better send in your completed applications I think it might fill up fast.

April 17th is almost here.
Save the date and clean up your MINI if you are going to attend.
Hope to see you there.
Food and snack donations are welcome I think.

BTW, the first package that I received from Owen via e-mail did not contain the file for the tech inspection sheet so I e-mailed him this morning and he sent me the file. Anyone need it? He states that they should also be available at BME though.

After I mailed in my event App and faxed it I got a reply by email that included student info, schedule of the day, rules, flag stuff and reading material. If you have paid and didn't get any reply you might want to email for the student info attachment via email. It was about 6 pages long.

Right, Owen e-mailed us together at the same time. In that material (the 6 pages) it stated that a Pre-Event Technical Inspection sheet was included but it wasn't.

I think I have all my forms.

I emailed for an event app and I got back three forms. One was an app, one a tech sheet for my car, and one was a flyer on the event.

I faxed my completed app in to Owen and mailed my app and payment.
I got email back that I was signed up and the 6 page attachement on the event info, etc.

I think I have everything so far. Is there more? Seems that was the same as last year.

Is there still space on 4/17 for a non-race, er non-driving school, participant? Is there a cost for the former?
