while at the dealership today, i met a man who was picking up his mini. apparently, his whole engine crapped out so he had the entire thing replaced. nevertheless, he was a happy camper b/c the warranty covered everything and he didnt have to pay a cent out of his own pocket.

this is the 2nd total engine replacement i've heard of in hawaii...perhaps there are more?

at the rate that things have been breaking in my car, he told me that mine will probably die at 2000 miles (i'm at 1506 as of today)...aaah, the things i have to look forward to.

I hope the guy used the heavy duty rubber band this time.

It sounds to me like another MCS "Guinea Pig" with a 19% reduction pulley experiment gone bad. I heard yesterday about someone with a fairly new MCS with the 19% pulley and a supercharger and engine totally turn to pieces. Dealer looked at it, saw the pulley and said "Sorry buddy, not covered under warranty".

Be careful with those aftermarket pulleys specially the 19% ones.

Mini-t, sorry to hear about your troubles, but it seems to me that your local dealer has been the main culprit all along...it seems he has been creating more problems than real fixes.

Also, my '04 MCS with 3,800+ miles has been absolutely flawless, no once back to the dealership for anything since taking delivery early October 2003.

My wife's '02 Cooper CVT with 19,200 miles has also been troublefree and the car is running like a champ.

I am afraid you got a not so good car sample and a pretty lousy dealer service dept to boot.

best of luck.

My boss always makes jokes about the giant rubber band under the hood of my car.
It never gets old I know my MINI is much faster than his F-150.

mini-t,

I would hope that your MCS engine will last far beyond 2000 miles.
My MCS is at 10,000 miles and doing fine. Had a PCV valve replaced but no real problems driving since I think the valve wasn't bad for too long. I'll let you know how I am doing at 20,000 miles. Erik808 is far beyond that I think.

===>I'm now situated in one location for work during the week. Me having to drive tons for work during my first six months of ownership was totally ideal. I wanted to motor around everywhere then. I still do but also wanna preserve mine. Got lots & lots more to experience
