mini-t,

Thanks for getting this started. I'm good for one. We'll need a tool to share and can split the cost (make it the club tool). I'm interested in the alta pulley specifically.

We'll also need a shop to work with. If we go as a group then we could be good for a group price since it is all the same stuff.

The How to install the pulley instructions are on MCO.

I'm not fussy about time element- when the group is ready in terms of numbers.

Gee, I wonder if I can fit two pulleys in my MCS?

I'm also interested in the Alta Pulley and would like to suport Randy at Minimotorsport. I'm wondering if we should be looking at pulley party to get Randy out here for install also rather than just buying pulley. If we don't have someone out for install we would want to rent or buy the puller- perhaps we could talk Alf and Vortec into getting into the installation for the MCS??

hi all,

thanks for listing your group buy interests.

i've been having some difficulty reaching people via PM so i've set up a new requirement for the group buys. in order to participate, you must send me an EMAIL at minigroupbuys@hotmail.com (NOT A PM!!!) containing the following information:

1. your name
2. you requests
3. your phone no/pager where i can best reach you

this will better enable me to contact you should emergency things arise or to set up pick up and payment (as not everyone sits at their computer all day and PM's don't always work).

thanks for your cooperation and understanding

aloha,
mini-t

Looks like the pulley can be done in @ 1.5 hours without the MINI Mania puller. See this link. Pulley install

mini-t,
Anymore info on this possible Alta group buy for Hawaii owners?
I thought we had at least 7 interested at last count.
Need a shop and a pulley tool that is reusable then could share cost or buy and rent tool to parties.
Just ideas for now.
Let me know if anything more needed.
Copy of this post to your PM made.
Thanks.

Oh yeah... one more please:

*Would installing this pulley (should the group buy go through) on a non-S (that's mine) be worth the effort?

I didn't get mine for speed (although my right foot weighs a lot at times  . Life's a trip ...

I have been in talks with minihune in the past, and if ten guys want to do it, I'm there for a party.

Let me know, and I'd be happy to work with you.

Randy

Beast - interesting that it can be done without the pulley remover. Hmmm.... might have to give that a shot.

The boost pressure in the sc is controlled by the speed of the sc. What the pulley does is overdrive the sc speed to create more boost. I've heard the pulley alone can give you 20+ hp. More hp+more tq=more speed

The difference between the $130 pulley and the $4500 JCW kit is the JCW has a new cylinder head that provides greater flow to the motor, a bigger sc and an exhaust, plus the retention of the factory warranty.

ERIK808,

Sorry to tell you this, but ONLY S's can get the pulley.
You need a suercharger to modify it.

BEASTMASTER,

That pulley install that was done in 1.5 hr, is just because he is changing his alrady modified pulley to a new one with the MINI MANIA logo on it.

Talk to Randy about what you can get for your car.

I might be ready for some mods, but I need pricing too. Pulley and ECU. I need plenty of advance warning to be able to ship my car to Honolulu, please keep me informed.

Jim,

It may be cheaper to fly the guy to Kona, than shipping your car to Hnl.

wow! randy's ready to hop over to the islands for a pulley party! ten does not sound like all that many mcs owners to commit. if i didn't plan on doing the works, i'd definitely be in, if my mcs was here on time. spread the word guys...ten sounds like the magic #. and maybe minihune counts for 2.

kbseto,
you have a choice of JCW kit or Pulley and Powerchip ECU upgrade for your MCS. Net effect is pretty close, still a matter of exhaust, intake, colder plugs, polished cylinder heads. When do you get your MCS?? We were looking at Jan or Feb for the party. Earlier might be possible only if travel schedule permits and all buyers are ready.

Let me know.

minihune's correct about achieving the same power gains with a pulley, intake, ECU and exhaust. However, you can also port and polish the heads for better flow, add in a header, extrude hone your intake manifold,... One thing that will happen when you do these mods is you will VOID your warranty, unlike the factory backed JCW kit.

Let's see, JCW installed @ $6k.

Pulley $150
ECU $750?
Intake $200
Exhaust $750
Header $750
So it's $2600 in parts plus installation ($1000?) and shipping ($500) for a total of $4100. Is the $1900 savings worth voiding the warranty? It's up to you. MINI Mania also has a 215hp kit for $2500. That may be the way to go as this kit should have dyno #s to back up their claim.

The big point of the JCW kit is definitely the peace of mind that the warranty is still intact plus you get a noticable performance modification which enhances the MCS in a balanced way (not excessive). The downside is the cost and availability of the kit. High demand and short supply.

>>Let's see, JCW installed @ $6k.
>>
>>Pulley $150
>>ECU $750? For Powerchip ECU can be as low as $690
>>Intake $200 If considering Alta with hose then about $260
>>Exhaust $750 many to choose from here so price may vary from $700 to $875
>>Header $750 Various sources -prices vary from $650 with no cat to $900+ but JCW kit doesn't include this header anyway-so for comparison purposes you can omit this option or not.

Add colder sparkplug set for four (also found in JCW kit) prices vary alot up to $100s.

If you want to get the biggest bang and save some funds then consider the above upgrades and leave the exhaust header out. Choices choices.
