[Hawaii] HMMC newsletter

I was having coffee today with Keiki today and one of the many subjects that came up was having an HMMC newsletter. Currently our newsletter (in it's e-mail form) is more like a mailing of upcoming events and such but I was thinking more along the lines of actually having articles.

We could have topics like :
- Who's who in HMMC (maybe spotlight a member and introduce him/her to everyone)
- HMMC event coverage with photos
- DIY tips/how-to with photos
- Road trip info
[Edit : - Classic Mini write-up/experience]

Anyone have experience in putting together a newsletter that wants to volunteer to head this project? I think it would be informative and fun.

Our club Hawaii MINI Motoring Club has one classic Mini member (he just joined us). He goes by Latka on NAM (PM him). Latka is also a member of the British car club so he can probably give you the best information on this too. There are no classic Mini clubs on the island; however, you are welcome to join our club.

i can help create a base template for whom ever will lay them out.

but doing a print version might be expensive to mail and maintain in a long run. we should take a survey from our local chapter to see who wants an electronic version (PDF) or print. that way, we can have a printed version for folks who wants them and at various meets and a pdf version for the rest of the world...

Good points

Louis and Keith,

Good points. I think pdf is the way to go - make it standard paper format and people can print it out on their own (save us money).

Yeah, I'd be willing to write per issue too.

Any ideas on topics and such?

if we set up an area for MINI vender's to advertise, we can use this to generate some cash flow into the club or use this as a trade for discounted parts...yeah....

I know that BMWCCH lets advertisers run ads for free but asks them to offer some form of discount.

Even though I am not a member or live on Hawaii (I do for a few weeks in the summer and have family there) am willing to write an article on Classic Minis. I have a 75/93 model and will be doing some mods that I can share. I also, in my spare time, collect and sell Classic MInis imported from England, if anyone is interested.

Ok great, we are back on topic.

Another good article would be "my first experience at Super Lap" or something along that line. Keith? Louis? Casey?

Yeah - or tips from Andrew and Dirk (they've run it quite a few times, yes?)

I'd love to help out with the newsletter. Erm... I'll send off my membership stuff before the weekend is out, I promise.

Uhhhh, not us - we're still learning too. Maybe Barry, or I could get Tom to write an article (or I can interview him).

...draggin this back on topic... sheesh DIRK you're horrible! Hahahahaha Just kidding of course. I must look like a drunk dude wandering through a field. It's hard for me to stay focused on much of anything, let alone one particular topic. I'm like a squirrel on crack.

I like the potential topic list you posted originally.

We could have topics like :
- Who's who in HMMC (maybe spotlight a member and introduce him/her to everyone)
- HMMC event coverage with photos
- DIY tips/how-to with photos
- Road trip info
[Edit : - Classic Mini write-up/experience]
Anyone got any *good* newsletters around that we can shamelessly steal ideas from?

hmmm..

i think we could have some interested write ups like:

1. various shop review (w/ owners) who works on MC and MCS (even the classic). who supports right down to an oil change.

2. what upgrades can we do to our minis w/o affecting our safty check.

3. how to take care of our MINI in this tropical weather (protect our paint, trims, etc).

4. product reveiw "street tested" on new products that is released (i.e. thermo thingy we did in our last DIY).

5. trends "pimp my auto". what MINI owners in hawaii do to their car.

6. classifieds

7. intereviews with various MINI owners and why they choose their ride.
