GP not BBK friendly

I tried to install my 13" TCE/Wilwood BBK on the Mini GP and found out the the large offset of the GP wheels really limits the size of BBKs that can be installed on the GP. The 13" TCE/Wilwoods with 0.81 rotor (thinner rotor) hit the wheel even with a 2mm spacer. The 13" Wilwoods fit fine, without any spacer, on my 2003 Mini with 17x7 and 38 offset BBS RGR wheels. I would need a 5mm spacer to eliminate interference on the GP wheel. Getting a 5mm spacer is not a problem but getting longer 14x1.25 lug bolts, to go with the spacer, is impossible. Longer lug bolts are needed to provide adequate threading into the hub (about 7 threads [9-10mm engagement] is recommended by The Tire Rack). I have not found anyone who knows of a company making 14x1.25 lug bolts. Various aftermarket wheel and brake suppliers are working to obtain longer than stock 14x1.25 lug bolts but until a supplier is found we will be limited on brake choices for the GP.

looks like Palo Uber makes the longer lugs you are looking for...

edit: apparently this was posted in the other thread specifically about lugs

I don't believe they are any longer than stock.

Thanks for the tip cooldaddy. I have sent an email to Palo Uber to see how long are their 14x1.25 lug bolts. I will let you all know what Palo Uber has to say about the lenght. I suspect, as newbs49 suggested, that the Palo Uber lug bolts are stock lenght but we will see. I hope they are longer than stock.

I think you're right, it wasn't entirely clear to me if quikmni was asking for 14x1.25 lugs or longer than 14x1.25 lugs...

I received an email back from Palo Uber stating that within 2-3 weeks they will have a 14mm x 1.25 pitch stud/nut kit available for the Minis. The intent is to provide a longer stud so that wheel spacers can be used on the new Minis. They said the stud will work with a 5mm spacer. I do not know how long the studs will be, thus I do not know how thick of a spacer (probably thicker than 5mm) can be used with their stud/nut kit.

Thanks for the info. When I contacted them 2 weeks ago they were'nt sure if they would have a stud kit. I'm glad to see they've changed their minds about this.I can't install my BBK kit without 5mm spacers which kind of pisses me off when I was told there really should'nt be a fit problem. Oh well. If I get a stud kit it won't matter but I'd rather not have to run a spacer all the time.
Maybe I'll sell the brand new brake kit to someone who wants to save a little money on 13.1 kit and wait till spring on brake options for my GP.
Thanks again for the update.

Bummer Mike, what are you going to do in the mean time?
Put the stock GP ones back on?

We'll have a solution in our hands in the next 6 weeks... however, it'll be for aftermarket wheels and BBK's.

Why don't you just get a stud conversion that's longer than stock? www.turnermotorsports.com has a good one, but I'm not sure those studs fit in the GP.

Paul,
I am going to stick with the JCW Brakes for now. One problem I have with the JCW Brakes is the lack of pad choices. I am keeping the Wilwood's, on a shelf, until I can obtain longer lug bolts or a stud kit.

txwerks,
Is it correct to assume that you are talking about a 14x1.25 mm to 12x1.5 mm conversion/adapter stud?

mb,
The GP uses the new 14 x 1.25 lug bolts. Turner does not carry that size lug bolt or stud kit.

All,
I talked to H&R today about 14 x 1.25 bolts for their wheel spacers. H&R was not aware of the change on Minis from 12x1.5 to 14x1.25. H&R is checking into possible sources and said they would get back to me. They seemed interested in providing longer 14x1.25 bolts for their wheel spacers.

Thanks for your interest on this matter. I've been trying to get this going since Sept when I got the car. I'm a little bumed that it's taken this long to get it going. We need to get vendors involved in this before the race and drivers school spring season begins. We need support from new MINI owners and those getting car s on order as all MINI's will have these new 14mm lugs.
