What is the recommended cleaning procedure for the wing?

My MA told me that the service dept told him there was a specific cleaning procedure to avoid scratching the wing. He didn't know what it was. Does anybody know how not to scracth the surface???

I have several of the clearcoated JCW carbon fiber parts, and I'll vouch that the clearcoat is very soft, and prone to microscratches and hazing/holograms.

I don't know of any MINI-specified procedure for cleaning the carbon-fiber parts, but I would start off by using lots of clean soapy water and a soft wash mitt. Use a soft cotton, microfiber, or polypropylene drying towel to avoid scratching up the clearcoat.

Even so, you might have to periodically polish the wing with a polisher and the finest machine polish you can find. Or, use a wax or polish that has a lot of fillers to fill in any scratches or hazing.

Just found the bulletin...It basically says that the GP should NOT be taken thru a car wash and to hand wash the car to ensure no damage is done to the spoiler. Mark when your MINI inflation kit comes in I'll spring for a spiffy wash mit for ya!

Thanks, Jarid! I already bought a wool one, but wouldn't mind seeing what you have.

They send me a car wash kit for the GP ( I guess, as part of the pre-delivery present) which had OEM washing products but nothing specific for the spoiler.

Did MINIUSA send that to you or the dealer? And did you do the Monterey delivery?

lastrega,

There was 1 number lower that was publicly delivered at Monterey--GP0015. Aneven lower numbered car--0006??--that was to have been delivered at Monterey, but was pulled off at the last minute.

My Stanley has the coolest number of any California based GP. It may even be the coolest number for any GP in the world.

Jim - that IS a way cool number ! Congrats! on that...... I will be getting attached to #1636 once I finally begin driving it next week, I'm sure.
For me, 3 + 6 = 9, which has been a lucky number for me in the past - and all of those numbers are in my driver's license, so I'm happy, besides, 1 and 9 combine to make 19, and #1636 will be my 19th MINI, so......wwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooo ooo !

GP 101 Cool Number ...

My GP # means nothing to me but I like it because is pretty low... would like to meet/know 141 and 143 ...

Doesn't anyone know if it possible to recreate the number on the passenger's side?

Revisiting this thread. . .

What should I use/not use for the carbon fiber rear wing to clean it? It seems awfully delicate to put any real pressure on it for polishing. What have you all used to clean it?

It's clear-coated, so just treat it like any other painted surface. Just see my earlier post and realize that the clear coat is pretty soft.

I claybared mine and then polished it with my PC using Prima Swirl and it came out pretty dang nice. Didn't do the black portions, just the CF wing part.

Wolke9, I woundn't be too overly concerned about putting pressure on the rear wing. While I wouldn't sit on it, it's designed to apply downforce, certainly in excess of 100 lb. Carbon fiber is constructed so that it's lightweight and strong.
