After seeing the post on Motoring File about somebody getting confirmation from Classic MINI in Ohio, I went to my MA (manager actually) yesterday after work. She emailed the regional MINI manager who said yes it's being made but won't come to the U.S. .

What have other people heard from their dealers so far if anything?

I wouldn't hold my breath.

From MINI2 they were talking about plexiglass windows, never get by DOT.

Bertone needs work. Looks like a gift to keep them working.

It may or may not come here, MINI doesn't know yet.
My dealer has a list, and I'm on it.

Perspex windows are not confirmed, just rumor.
BMW does not give out gifts!!! BMW owes Bertone for the failed C1 and more importantly, Bertone is/are masters in aluminum bodywork.
I'm not holding my breath, but I'm not dead either.
If/when it comes.....great. If it doesn't then......I'll get over it......NOT.

Yeah, I read the same thing. I think its still a gift, they need work. Despite what Gabe is saying on Motoringfile, I doubt it will be $30K, more like $40K. Then your in Elise territory. As to the extra 15 HP, its probably just the computer. If MTH can get an extra 20 HP for the JCW I'm sure JCW can.

If it does come, it would be sweet:smile:

I'd like to see the MTH software that gets 20hp out of anything! The most I've seen in tuning the software is 12 or so, and that's spending a lot of time doing a custom map.

Not saying it isn't possible, just intrigued!

I think BMW/MINI are very aware of the pricing territory issue... especially in the US. If they indeed produce 2000 of these aluminum badboys... I'd seriously expect them to start around 30-35k USD. Think of the percentage that the M3 MSRP is higher than the standard 3 series. Now bring that down to MINI levels...

Gabe is absolutely right (as he usually is) about US pricing.

Do I doubt the reality of having it here? On one hand yes, because of the requirements to get it certified here. On the other hand, the US market is the MINI's most important market right now, so it would be hard to imagine they wouldn't want it here.

I hope it comes here - I'd be jealous though 'cause I can't afford three MINIs!

From https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=50030

"COOPER S JCW 200/210 ca. 230 BHP"

Am I reading something wrong here? Or just a claim and another good reason for a vendor shoot out?

I learned a long time ago not to believe everything you read

That's what I'm saying - it is a good claim, but not something we've ever seen realized, or heard about being realized from other very good tuners (like GIAC, Powerchip, etc.).

I want a shoot out! Like we've said before, we've been to several events with other tuners present and beaten them in an autocross or track event. I would like to see more.

Again, back to the topic  .

From Paul Mullett tonight on MINI2 http://www.mini2.com/
"From what I've been hearing (and this is from "sources", not anything more official yet) it looks like we are certainly looking at a fairly heavily modified, no back seats, lack of creature comforts MINI. I'd never even thought to enquire if there was room in the back for passengers before, which is why I've never mentioned 2 or 4 seater! Doh!

That said, this might be a good investment as they're going to be rare?!"

Has anybody heard anything more about the so-called 'CSL' (apart from MINI2 or MotoringFile)?

I expect we will hear something (fingers crossed) toward the end of the
month. MINI United in Misano Italy Oct. 28-30.
Just a guess, but what better place to announce a MINI/Bertone venture?

1 Series you must be joking that is sooo ugly, you might as well buy a five year old M3. I used to really like BMWs, but the Bangle effect has ruined the whole company for me. I am just happy I own the only good looking thing they produce (well except maybe the 6's.) Just pray they do not try to save weight by adding iDrive, as ugly as their cars are the iDrive system is worse.

As for the light weight Mini from Italy I think it is an awsome idea, but like others said they better not get near the Lotus price, that thing is incredible!

A two seater won't be much of a problem as many of us have made that conversion already. This should be interesting in any event.
