TPMS on the GP with wheel/tire change?

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on this TireRack package:

O.Z. Alleggerita HLT in Antrachite with either 205/45/17 or 215/45/17 Hankook Ventus V12 shoes.

My question is what, if anything, do I need to do with the TPMS? Did the GP adopt the 2007 plus sensor system, which if I understand it correctly dies not have the sensor in the tire? Quite frankly I don't care if I have TPMS or not, but would like to know so I can ignore any Granny lights or Nags that may come on.

BTW I did a search on TPMS in the JCW garage and found nothing to help with any GP specific info.

One more thing...do you reco that I go up to the 215 width? If so what are the benes of that over a 205? AFAIK the 215 would end up being closer on the speedo compared to our stock OEM GP shoes. BTW I'm looking for a little better feel, comfort and performance for the street only.

You should have the same set up as I do. There are no sensors in the wheels themselves, and you have a rest button for the new tires/rims under your ebrake handle. OM has info on how to reset if the yellow light comes on.

I have 215/40/18's on GP rims with JCW suspension and no rubbing issues. From what I have seen, a local guy with a GP is running 225's on 18 inch rims.

The issue 1st Gen MINI's can get into with wider rims or tires is slight rubbing on the rear inner fenders on some bumps, and those with wider rims, possibly clearance issues with rear control arms.

thanks for the intel GR...I know the little lite by the Ebrake since I've accidentally depressed the button by it.

it doesn't seem that a 215/45/17 would be a fit issue at all since the couple of calculators I've used show it as very close to the OEM 205/40/18 numbers with the width being only 0.39 wider for the 215.

Good. But I would seriously consider the 40 profile over the 45. Less side wall flex with the lower profile. I prefer the 40 over the 45 anyday esp if you are considering going up a size to 215.

I would also suggest 215/40-17 instead of 215/45 or 205/45.
I used 215/40-17 on my previous MCS.

You did not state what wheel width or offset you plan to purchase. But by looking at Tire Rack, I would guess you are going with a 7" wide wheel that has 37mm offset. That should work with no rubbing on the GP with the JCW suspension. I had 215/40x17 on 7" wide and 38mm offset on my 03 MCS with H&R springs (lower than JCW springs) and I had slight rubbing in the rear. With the JCW springs you should not have any rubbing.

As already stated, you do not need TPMS for the GP.

I have 215/40-18 with 7" wide wheels and 37mm offset with the JCW suspension. I have rubbing at the rear when the suspension is loaded. The 215/45-17 tire should have a tire diameter of about 24.62" verse the 215/40-18 tire which has a diameter of 24.77", thus the 215/45-17 is a little more an 1/8" shorter. That might give you enough clearance but I suspect it will be close and the chance of rubbing will probably depend on the actual width of the tire you purchase since the width varies a little between different tire brands.

The V12 in 215/45-17 has a Section width of 8.4 and Tread Width of 7.4 which is the same as my 215/40-18 Toyo T1R that I use so again you will be close with rubbing. If you have rubbing, it should be slight.

Good info in here. I'm planning on getting a set of 17's for Fall/Winter use running a 225 inside the fenders. Sounds like a 40 series is my best bet.

Currently I have the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO 215/40-18 on the OEM wheel and have about 1/4" between the tire and trailing arm in the rear. My 18x7.5" SSR SP1's have a 40ET, run a 215/40-18 Toyo Proxies 4 and don't have any problems either.

Mr. Wilson, what is your opinion on 225/50R16 tires on 16x7 Wheels?
