I just paid $4.09..Ca. price for Premium. My question ...is it really ncecessary to use premium..I have read conflicting reports. I don't drive a lot..mostly in town...my MINI is 4 years old.

The inside of your gas cap lid should tell you what the minimum is. If you've got a Cooper (the R50 anyhow, not sure of the new Coopers), then I believe you can run Regular. A Cooper S requires Premium due to the supercharger/turbo.

Higher octane gasolene burns faster, so your timing may be thrown out if you mess with the octane rating when the car is tuned for higher octane gas.

I also heard that AZ gas is cheapest in the nation, but looking at some prices above...
Prescott (in the mountains) Chevron 91 octane $3.879, 2 days ago. Price changes 1/2 day.

$4.23/gal...that's up 6cents since Thursday and 14 cents since last Friday 5/16. We generally fill-up every Friday whether Molly needs it or not at the Shell Station on the way home.

Eh... technically speaking higher octane gas has a lower ignition point. It's more resistant to "Dieseling" (Diesels have no spark, they ignite their air/fuel mixture via compression).

High compression motors are prone to pinging with lower octane fuels. Using low octane fuel in the MCS will dial timing back quite a bit. Even using the proper octane fuel (91+) in your car will likely cause it to dial timing back.

You'll make the most power and do the least damage to your engine by running the proper octane fuel. I actually cracked a piston because of detonation, and I was using 91 octane fuel. IMO you're out of your mind if you put anything lower than 91 in your car...

The MC AND the MCS BOTH require 91 octane MINIMUM fuel octane. The MC actually runs higher compression than the MCS, and is just as prone to detonate on low octane gas.

$0 per gallon. Dealer gave me two free fill-ups after taking delivery of Blackjack. After that it'll probably be $4+ per gallon.

I've been paying $4.39/gal for premium in my Subaru, so $60 fill-ups are pretty normal :(

But that's the absolute cheapest Chevron I can find in my region. One I used to commonly visit is now at $4.55/gal, and a very popular one in Colfax that has always been a little more expensive is now at $4.63/gal.

Insane. Looking forward to driving my clubbie and saving some change!

Tonight, gas at both Chevron and Shell was 4.17 for premium 93.

And I carry a bottle of octane booster in the boot, just in case some back road station doesn't carry 93.

Back AWAY from the octane booster. People have done SERIOUS damage to their engines with octane booster, not to mention most of the proper testing of octane boosters shows that it can actually make you LOSE power.

I'd shy away from that stuff. You'll do less damage running a tank of 87 and taking it easy...

im looking at like the 4.20 bracket. and im really considering buying a bike and riding that. i have my eye on the ducati 848 pretty seriously.
but the gas prices are just downright messed up.
Just curious where dose everyone think gas comes from....?
its not saudi arabia. its 65 percent canadian and the next biggest supplyer is mexico. i say screw the mooses and drill alaska allready this is retarded.
besides its proven to be pretty safe anyway.
