If the Dollar was worth what it was two years ago gas would still be less than $2 a gallon.

 

Why is our oil under their sand? It is a bumper sticker I saw in Texas years ago on an oil service truck when we were surveying a seismic shot.

What does it mean?....depends on your opinion. I did not coin it, I just find it a relevant and humoring statement in the form of a question, and will leave it at that.

Between 4.09 and 4.21 Fayetteville, NC. It takes about 45 to fill up these days. But running the AC during 105 temps with heat index of ? is killing mileage.

 

$4.819 this morning. Just keeps going up.

$60 even to fill up. 60!!

 

It's interesting that 100 Octane Race Gas was about $5.00-$6.00 a gallon back in 2006--and that was very painful or unheard of to fill your tank with that as a daily driver....now we're approaching it....

 

thanks so much for your well-reasoned reply. "Rabid Environmentalists" may have indeed restricted drilling, but our at-home oil reserves are not exactly "huge" in the big picture. Big Oil has its share of bought and paid for politicians as well. Market manipulation/speculation is a big part of the present spike. One thing that everyone should be able to agree on is that mini drivers are at least part of the solution, though that may not be the main reason most of us purchased our cars. I bought my "just-a-cooper" because I saw something like this coming 3 years ago. Regardless of who or what you feel is to blame, we should all be doing whatever we can to reduce demand. I found a guy to ride share with online last week. I can't drill in my yard, but I can try to buy less.

There is an article in the paper today about people in border towns driving to Mexico to fill up. The Mexican gov't subsidizes the fuel.

Hi here in montreal it today 1.40 per liter so it take 4 liter to fill 1 gallon =5.60$ cant not belyve it 65$ to fill my mini and 105 $ to fill the jepp liberty.
that 170 $ per week .. and what to you think i wiil be driving for vacation..yes my scooter....

Just paid $4.28 a gallon for 93 octane here in Northern Illinois. Closer-in to the Chicago suburbs its more like $4.45 - at $4.27 filling-up was $50 and change.

Just did my first fill up. Paid $4.25 for Shells' V-Power 92 octane.

Got 38 mpg combined on my first tank. Not bad. Hopefully that will improve with the better gas.

 

Just filled up earlier today at $4.83! Hopefully I can make this tank last a long while.

Valero down the road is $4.13 for premium but I'm still using diesel at $4.69. Oof!

In maybe three weeks my fuel bill will go down and the fun factor will go up.

 

I've posted in this thread before, and had a couple comments to make. One, I paid 4.27$ for V-Power yesterday... ouch.

Two, the reason gas prices are rising has little to do with rises in consumer use of oil in America and everything to do with rises in consumer use of oil in China. China's economy has been in the toilet for the last fifteen years and now their economy is out of the toilet so China is buying a crapton of oil... because they can actually afford it. This is driving up oil prices per barrel because supply has yet to rise to meet demand.

Also, oil is a world wide commodity. It's arrogant to think that America alone is responsible for the high price of oil and thus, high gas prices.
