MINI almost named car of the year

The Lexus LS 460 was named 2007 World Car of the Year by a jury of top automotive journalists at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday.

The LS 460 was chosen from a field of 28 nominees. If offers the world’s first eight-speed automatic transmission. It also is renown as the first car that can parallel park itself, with a little help from cameras, computers and, oh yes, a driver. The two other finalists were Audi's new TT sports car and BMW's 2007 Mini

It didn't win but made the top 3, how cool is that.

I would take the MINI over a Lexus (or any other car) any day... and I like to parallel park... ;-)

I'd agree that the top 3 finalists are all for 3 different kind of buyers. The MINI is for me, but the other two are excellent vehicles in their own right.

Lexus' are so luxurious and comfy that they make you fall asleep while driving, totally the opposite from our beloved MINIs

Why would you want a car that needs a computer to park it

Why would you want to ride with someone who needs a computer to park?

I though it was the A/C or something that makes me want to sleep while driving my wife's 07 ES350. I have a hard time staying awake while driving it then I get in my MINI and no problem staying awake.

well, you can buy two mini's for that lexus.

Yeah, the lexus in general is a fantastic car, and that one, well, is just super deluxe lexus version so I am sure its even more smooth to drive.

that's amazing that mini was chosen for top 3!

i dunno about the rest of you, but i LOVE being able to u-turn in an area smaler than a motorcycle can!

I had a feeling Lexus would win that one. Much as I love my MCS, the Lexus was loaded with innovations. Most peple I know don't seem to be able to park in a regular parking spot, much less backing in or parallel parking, so I see great practical use for the parking system on that vehicle. Now, if they could design a computer to DRIVE it for them, I'd vote it car of the CENTURY.

All things being equal, though, I'd still take the MINI, hands down, for my personal vehicle. Even if that Lexus has 400+ hp, it cannot be as fun to drive as a bone stock MCS.

I think a lot of that could have been avoided by reading the manual and removing about 99% of the ego and testorone in that car.
