True...we can come up with all the snappy comebacks we want as a defense, but as long as MINIs are considered "cute" by the masses then people will still come up to you quite regularly and say "your car is so cute!!!" They do generally mean it as a compliment.

We must try to remember that, no matter how many "go fast" bits we have or how stealthy we think our cars look, it is still, essentially, a Mini/MINI.

Very true. Many times, in an enthusiasts forum, we tend to forget that the "masses", the vast majority of the motoring populace, could give a squat about "modding" and leave all their cars stock.

I just had a cute woman I know come up to me and say that my car is so 'cute'.....so I looked her in the eye and thanked her, but told her I prefer to think of it as compact, but manly.

haha

SAME HERE! I love when girls come up and say, "Your car is SO CUTE!" I just snap back with "You too babe" and then launch off.

If anything i should be the most worried. I mean the electric blue to some people is just not a manly color.

Embrace the cuteness its part of the package of owning a Mini. My mother-in-law makes sure she always tell me my mini is cute. I just smile because I know she just want to **** me off for selling my 4 door bland mobile. It's cute but a lot of unique cars tend to look cute.

I have no problem when people call it cute, especially when those people are 18-20 years old and are female. The young ladies can call it cute all the want, and if they are lucky maybe I will take them out for a date in my "cute" car

MINI official training

When I went to my MINI training class (Let's Meet MINI) the very first thing we did was word association with the MINI.

Essentialy they asked us to write down 3 words that we thought of when we thought of a MINI. Almost everyone said cute as one of the words.

Then the hammer dropped. Our instructors (indoctrinators?) informed us we could not use the word cute ever again to describe the MINI. Their fear was that it would contribute to "chick car status" which they felt was undesirable.

Of course, being somewhat rebellious and recalcitrant, my MA buddies and I rejoiced in the opportunity to use the word "cute" as many times as we could in those two days of training. It was just our way of saying that you can't fight the truth!

Also, with so much personification and personality our MINIS are like people, and who doesn't like cute people?

Bonus points to Gromit.

Oh, I know - got the cd, and have the song on severa other compilation cds. I was just adjusting the name to fit with MINIs.

Ok, not giving me a year there, but did you ever go to a place called Smuggler's Inn in Citrus Heights in about 1979?

Where exactly is/was that?? The name sounds really familiar - I grew up in Carmichael, and was in/around Citrus Heights ALL the time.

In 1979, I was 13, so if it was a bar, then I wouldn't have been inside.

Ok, you'd have been too young. It used to be out in front of Sunrise Mall. I was the DJ there for a couple years.

Was La Sierra HS still operating when you went to HS?

OK, I was thinking it was in front of the mall, but I wasn't sure. That place has been a zillion bars/restaurants over the years. Oooo!! DJing in the late '70s. I'm SOOO envious. Of course, I'd make a better '70s dj now than I would have back then, hence my screen name.

La Sierra closed between my Junior and Senior years, iirc (1982), and we got a lot of their students - I went to Del Campo. The school is still there, but it's La Sierra Community Center now. They have plays, school events and other functions there.

Wow. I lived off Lincon Avenue near the general area of Fair Oaks Blvd and San Juan Avenue. You must not have been too far away - other side of Manzanita somewhere.

What were we talking about?
