A Picture of Solitaire with her new stripes...

Finally got the stripes on....and the photos too before 2 inches of snow covered everything......

I apologize for the lack of sharpness in the picture, but this was taken through a glass window.

Looks great! I love it.
I am confused, though. Did they change out your scoop or does the vinyl cover the scoop? I had this conversation with a another NAMer and he indicated that the scoop was painted silver and the stripes were separate vinyl?

Ok...talked to my MA about this some time back...

BMW Mini is supplying all dealers with unpainted hood scoops and the stripes in vinyl. Based on the customer's request, the dealer can either leave the original hood scoop on or get the unpainted one painted silver to match the stripes. If the demand for the silver hood sccop + stripes is strong enuf, BMW Mini will supply the hood scoops pre-painted in silver.

As of now, for the MCS what one gets for the stripes installation is:
1) Silver colored Vinyl 'Swoop' stripes
2) Hood sccop painted in silver (if one wants it)

So when you order your stripes, they remove the body colored scoop and replace it with one painted silver. The stripes are distinct and go on seperately. The stripes are pretty cool, with cut-outs for the washer jets and the edges are neatly chamfered (rounded up). My dealer did a great job installing them and you can hardly feel the edge seperation from the body, when you run your hands against the stripes.

Personally, I think that the silver hood scoop is better than the body colored one, when you get the stripes.

I can't picture that stripe style without the silver scoop. It looks great the way it is.

Do they let you keep your original scoop in case you want a different stripe style in the future?

I was...

.....feeling guilty. Why?? Let me explain....

When we went to book our Mini in August, there were two options for us...
a) Get the silver stripes/silver roof combo and wait for a November delivery.
b) Get the silver roof, and get delivery in September and get the stripes later on.

We chose Option (b). At the same time, our MA, being the nice guy he is, told us this..." You guys have already opted for the Sports package and you should have gotten your stripes because of that. So pay $100 more for the silver stripes, and when we get stripes as a post-delivery option, we will install them on your car, no additional charges!!!!"

So by paying $200 ($100 for the stripes in the sports package and $100 more at the time of ordering), we got the stripes installed at no additional charge. I am sure that getting the hood scoop painted and the stripes installed would definitely have cost my dealer more than $200 (parts and labor).

I don't much care for the idea of shafting my dealer, considering that I got a good deal, and also the way we have always been treated by the whole dealership, during all our visits. So if they haven't given me my body colored scoop back, no big deal.

For other customers, I am sure that the original hood scoop will be turned back. So if we ever want to go to a different stripe style, guess we would be opting for a new hood sccop painted purple haze!!!!!!

They are only available from the dealer on cars with silver roofs, so not for the cabrio, but that doesn't mean you could not get the stripes from a dealer and do it. . .

PH ordered

We ordered a PH/W MCS the middle of December but I just found this thread! It is due to leave the factory Jan. 21. Hope it makes it on time or it might get caught in the plant shutdown . I don't check on it often (only twice so far) but both times I did it was still saying the 21st.

We found out the week after we ordered they were doing away with the PH. Now we will have 2 MINIs in colors that they "retired". We also have a IB/W MC.

Can

Since I started this thread I thought I should post a couple images right away upon getting home with Nigel. Our low- end digital camera is having difficulty with the color, but here are a couple shots. We love the silver roof with the PH:

ARgh-h-h-h-h! I just sat here for almost an hour and got my butt kicked by a computer and all I managed to do was get this thumnail attached to my post!

Well, if you get a magnifying glass, you'd be able to see it....can anyone help me make it a little bit larger to us older folk don't have to strain our eyes? Thanks

Anyway, this is my baby, Ducky. He started out as a PH/W roof and mirror caps and then I had the white painted red and added the checkered panels....Here, in the photo, Ducky was sitting in the dealer's lot, I just rode 200 miles to show off the new paint, and when I came out, there was a man scoping Ducky out. It turns out that the dealer sold their last MINI and wouldn't be getting anymore until next year...the man saw Ducky sitting in the lot and thought it was a used car for sale. I stood next to him while he was peeping. I started up the conversation saying it was a pretty car. He said it was and wondered how much it was going for. I told him I financed $8k. He still didn't realize that I was Ducky's partner. We talked more and then I said I had to go. I took out my key, pushed the button, got in and drove off. The man looked so hurt as I drove off...Hopefully, by now, he's found another. Mick
