coolant fan wiring problem

Hi
had the front off last week.
When put back together the fan on the rad did not work.
Found the resistor blown.
Now fan runs as soon as the engine starts.
Also i found a second small plug on the fan loom
but can't see what it connects to.
Could this be the fan on all the time problem.

Thank you.

If you have an early R53 there are two plugs for the fan, both close together along the top right hand side of the unit as you face it from the front.

thank you but

Hi
I have the two plugs from the fan.
I do not know where the small plug goes to as
i took the front off.
I need to know where the small plug goes as
i can't see another plug on the car loom.
It must have been plugged in before i took the front
off as the plug is clean inside.
Thank you

On my "03 the plugs from the fan join a loom coming from the driver's (left) side. They connect at a spot beside one of the AC valves, and the plugs come out of the looms very close together so I doubt you could miss the other plug. I wonder if your wiring could have been modified at some point. Hope you can resolve the issue without too much aggravation.

Maybe I missed it.
What year is your Mini?
As @BRGPA pointed out - ' has an '03 which has 2 plugs (larger main and one small). I have an '04 pre-facelift R53 (built in 11.3. 2003) and has only 1 plug (the changed/started in '"p-f" '04 model).
Are you the original owner? The reason I ask is that; if you have a model after 2003 - Someone may have previously replaced the fan with one for an earlier 2 plug wire model (2001 - 2003).
Again as BR also mentioned perhaps it has been re wired to work?

Just curious - What is the coolant temp reading? ....If air in system is present it may cause overheating = the fan will automatically kick on.
I'm no expert. Just a thought.
