Anyone running 10w30 oil ??
Anyone running 10w30 oil ??
About due for a oil change at 60,000 miles.
I was thinking about using a full synthetic 10w30 oil........(I thought it may give the turbo a little better protection.)
Anybody else ???

You can have any oil you want, as long as it’s LL-01 certified. Head to Walmart and grab a jug of Castrol 0W-40 or 5W-40 for around $25.
The LL-01 certification means it has to pass a turbo test designed by BMW, among a slew of other tests.

Just make sure its LL-01 and meets the BMW/MINI stardards, I was 5w-30 and now on Molygen 5w-40.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of flash about what I'm going to say. Thicker oil does not protect your engine better than manufacturers recommended oil, it may in fact hurt your engine. Today's engines are vastly different from the engines 20 or so years ago. Modern engines use very close tolerances and if you use a thicker oil, it may not get to the surfaces it's meant to protect causing premature wear and higher oil pressure. I could go into more detail, but the logic is already there. I would go with what the manufactures recommends. just my 2cents.....

Molygen does NOT have LL-01 approval, fyi.
Good point. Not approved by bmw/mini ll-01 program, but meets the specs. MINI used to have 4 aftermarket oils posted before that are approved which you can find in the forums here and here https://garywright.smugmug.com/Motor...ly/Oil-Crisis/ .
I really like oil and been running it for a while now on both my R52 and R58.

Keep in mind newer MINI engines now recommend this:
