Gauge Installation

Not sure whether I'm looking for encouragement or advice -- maybe a bit of each; both are welcome. I have a 2013 S R58 Coupe and I'd really like to install two gauges: water temperature and oil pressure. (Any thoughts on whether these are the two to install?) I've glanced at the installation instructions for the Marshall instruments on the CravenSpeed site. They seem pretty straightforward when it comes to the connections to the engine. But the interior wiring has me a little concerned.

Anyone out there connected these gauges before? Easy enough?

Thanks, all.

I have, I used the Cravenspeed gauges and adaptors. It isn't hard, there is a rubber octopus looking thing on the firewall that you can route your wires through. It is just above the brake pedal.

I put a boost gauge, water temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure gauge on a home made mount, made of 1/16" aluminum and 2" ABS drain pipe the mounting screws on the gauges hold everything together.

DneprDave, really appreciate the response. (Did you have to take up the center console to wire in?)

BTW, your car looks fantastic. Great work. (You should think about marketing your work!)

I tapped into a light in the console to power the lights in the gauges, so yes, I took up the console.

Wow, StephenM, after viewing the link with the info on gauge installation... I'm thinking twice about installing my own gauges.

Thanks for the assist.

Nice, drea-min. What kind of gauges? Did you install yourself?

They are Auto Meter gauges - look close on the oil pressure.

Yes the gauges are from Auto Meter some parts are from various vendors and installation i did it myself, tapping and soldering takes some times and its a challenge for DYI. The hard part is where you removed the oil pressure switch and then adding the adapter Tee for the gauge and the exhaust heat shields needs to trim it a little.

First picture where all the wiring goes and inside under the steering wheel, second is the coolant temperature sensor, and third is the oil pressure sender, i used hydra-air hose from the tee and away from the exhaust heat, accessible and convinient

I used 1/4" hydraulic hose to remote mount the oil pressure sender away from the engine.
any hydraulic shop will custom make a hose, it's not expensive.

I didn't realize cheaper $2.99 to use grease gun hose its made for high pressure, the fittings are standard thread 1/4"

Good idea. I needed two feet of hose to mount the sending unit where I wanted to and I was concerned with tolerance to heat in the engine bay. The hose I had made was less than ten dollars.
