Repeated break ins when I locked my car

Please help!

My R56 2009 mini has been broken in to 3 times now. The first time was a few years ago, and I thought maybe I forgot to lock it. The second time was within the last year, and I thought I stupidly forgot to lock it again. But this third time was today and I am 100% sure I locked it because I know I clicked the button AND I physically looked at the doors to make sure the lock knobby thing was flat (same area near where the 2nd break in happened so I was being cautious).

When I came back to my car, the driver side was unlocked. The passenger and trunk were still locked. But I know they gained access to the trunk because things were moved. They knew about the secret compartment in the car too

How is this possible? I don’t know how someone keeps getting in to my car. Does anything know if this is a new problem or are there mini master keys now??

Any advice is much appreciated. I feel violated again and it feels so awful...

Where do you park? Does your car have an alarm? If not, you can get one that notifies you whenever your alarm is activated.
You can also install a dashcam (powered by an external battery).

It was parked on the street while I went to a show. I was gone from the car about 3 hours. Busy street well lit but not the best of areas. I do not have an alarm or dash cam (although I think I will pursue a camera now).

Why do they keep picking my car though? Is a mini easy to get in to?

You can't foil a professional regardless of your methods. (Legally) A claymore comes to mind, but they're getting harder to find and you risk a lot of collateral damage.

Disclaimer: Not recommending you actually use explosives to "protect" your car.

This is the bottom line. A garage helps, but its just another level of deterrent.

Looking for serious responses. This is not funny to me having my car and stuff rummaged through. And it’s not happening when I am not at home. I am out to dinner or to see a show.

Lock your **** in a garage, get a dog, and have your shotgun ready.

Thats crazy, where is this car loacted? Are you in a downtown area? Most people dont mess with MINIs as they dont know how to even get into them, they are confused about the door handle half the time, no joke. My guess is someone doesnt not like it or someone you know is doing this. I never heard of 3 times. Slim jim i bet is the way they are getting in. You must be in a high crime area, i driven my MINI all over the USA with over 284K miles, parked in DC downtown, NJ, NYC downtown, Miami, Detriot downtown, Toronto..etc With a convertible and people dont bother it.

I would get a camera or park it near a camera all night to see whats going on. Or get an alarm so at least you can hear it when somone messes with it.

If you put in a camera that is not stealth it will probably be stolen. Seems like you have limited options if you continue to park where you do. Are you always parking in the same area? If so maybe someone has you on the radar as a source for things to steal. Have they taken anything or just messed around?

my '14 was a casualty of attempted theft. They bent the rear quarter panel and slightly split the door shell where you can see the window sprockets. luckily it had a factory alarm and i think it went off on them.

I felt like shooting someone when i saw that...we work freaking hard for this and some **** comes and messes with it.

If your car continuously gets broken into regardless where you park, I'd suggest you leave nothing inside your car.
Has anything ever gotten broken? (windows, trim, etc).

I was being serious. You cannot stop professional thieves.

the location not the safest. There’s definitely sketchy stuff going on and it is not as busy as the downtown area but still a lot of foot traffic and cars. I talked to my auto place. They said the same thing, it is likely a professional who has a specific tool and is targeting minis, my mini, or cars with similar door. Nothing has ever been broken, just the door became unlocked. That is a really great idea, if I have to drive there to look for a spot that is near cameras. I am considering a discreet dash cam but that could get stolen too. I set up an appt for an alarm. Thank you!!

Yes parking in the same area within 1/2 mile radius because it’s near the theater. yes they’ve taken things. But nothing valuable is in plain sight. Yesterday I only had hand wipes, blender cup, chapstick, altoids, windshield sun visor, yoga mat visible. None of those were even taken. They took antibact gel, cuticle oil, sunglasses, and phone charger from the glove box. It’s so weird. Every time they take lotion/sunscreen and once my umbrella. My car is clean too not junky... I’ve decided I have to Uber there now, not to risk it happening again.

yeah, the first 2 times I had a garmin gps in the glove box that was taken both time. But that was not visible to attract theives. After that I did not keep anything valuable on my car. This third time they took my prescription sunglasses and my phone charger. Those 2 items were left prior. It’s so weird. No, Nothing has ever been broken (one positive right?). They just unlock the door, throw my stuff around looking for things and shut the door...

THank you for the helpful responses. I think it is someone/some people experienced and are targeting my type of car in that area. Learned about how they might be getting in after researching stuff mentioned in the above comments. I’m going to get an alarm and just Uber when I have to go to that area from now on. Will keep looking for a very discreet dash cam too that will send alerts and video to my phone/app.
Thanks again

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

San Francisco has a horrible problem with car break-ins. You don't dare leave anything visible. One of the local TV stations set up a car with a bunch of cameras and left a bag on the front seat. Didn't take long before some scumbag smashed the window, grabbed, the bag, and ran.

I always liked this solution:
