Installing Harmon Kardon Speakers In Place Of Current

I was wondering has anyone installed Harmon speakers into their car that doesn’t have the upgraded system setup before?

The amps I have are awesome, but I wanted to know what people think of changing the midspeakers with the Harmon ones and if so how do you like them?

I used a loaner car with a full on Harmon Kardon system while I was having my Paceman S maintenanced and I was impressed with it. Please share thoughts and opinions on this because Minis can only have 4” speaker and it seems the demensions fit without the Harmon setup.

What generation car you have? You checked out the individual generation areas Nav & Audio sections?

Whine_not_Walnuts it’s a 2015 S model.

The reason why didn’t post in Nav and Audio is because the Paceman and Countryman section isn’t broad enough to get attention to my question so added it in general talk. Some of the threads about sound/nav are pretty old and more directed to those with setup or looking to replace current parts with the same thing.

Correct me if I’m wrong of course.

I have seen and heard of people just doing the speaker swap. they just get all the HK same size speakers and swap them out. The tweeter has to be added as the stock stereo does not have them, see below.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...81#65139368383

Also, this swap: for the tweeter add on for the R60 Countryman/ R61 Paceman

@ECSTuning I only have the base speakers which altogether is 4 (not including amps). So am I able to just use the mid speaker for the doors where the other 2 speakers are?

The diagram you’ve linked shows for the back of the car where the other passengers sit.

Here you go with the fronts, rears, and the bass(underfloor) speakers. The diagrams are just general location. People tap into the door speaker to add the tweeters. You just select the non HK ones per the model year, plug it into our site search and you will have a list.

What were the results? For several reasons, the HK speakers are a poor match for anything but the HK amplifiers.

@ECSTuning is it hard to install these speakers myself or should I have a professional do the job for me?

Front door speakers are a pretty easy install. Adding tweeters if you don't already have them is a bit more work.

What amps do you have in your car already?

Have you looked at https://www.bavsound.com/Product/bsd...man-base-audio ??

You'll get better results with aftermarket speakers. The Harmon speakers are nonstandard and have no crossovers (digital crossovers are built into the Harmon amp). Without crossovers, the speakers will be playing frequencies outside of their range, causing distortion.

Yep, it will not have a cross over but the speaker do sound better i heard them in the HiFi to HK speaker swap. And non Hifi (basic to HK). It would work better with a dedicated amp and crossover hands down.

Bavsound has nice drop in replacements for the front midrange speaker. They incorporate a mid and tweeter. I have been enjoying them for over a year and they make a big difference.

@ECSTuning so to better to have the HK amps for sure to make the speakers efficiently?

Is there a lot of wiring needed for the HK speakers or is it pretty simple?

@rebonz so they make speakers that are 4” and what amps do you already have?

@Minnie_The _Moocher stock amps thus far, but the amps I have now are a little better than the stock ones.

@ECSTuning is it possible to use the bass and amplifier from HK in my Paceman S?

I just spoke to a parts person and they said you can’t fit the bass or amp into the car.

What is needed?

I swapped in all the HK speakers and amp in place of my Hi-fi system. Then I successfully coded the car to think it was always installed. The sound is truly amazing. The control over the bass and highs are fantastic. I am very happy with the results.

What were the speaker types and amp maker? Can you give more detail of the coding?

@Ive’s_Mini how did you do the coding?

That’s seems very complex at that point unless it’s so,etching you’re able to do with ease.

Door speakers, except for the add-on tweeters are a direct swap, the amp is not.

@ECSTuning this isn’t about getting to the speakers though.

I would like one for the speakers, I guess I should have been more specific.

No those are all I could find. Nothing more specific. The Countryman and Paceman dont have that much info, also with realoem down I cannot explain the diagrams. They should be back up and working tomorrow.

@ECSTuning where can I buy the HK covers front and rear or the Paceman?

I will be replacing the speakers with the 4 speakers with the HK, but I was wondering if the HK bass speakers would fit n the Paceman S?

I came across this video on replacing the speakers for the R60 and same with the bass and amp, what I wanted to point out it has some footage on how to remove the panels from the front/back doors. In my case I need to see how to remove the panel without a door because I have a two door.
