Motul, Luqui Moly, or Mobil 1?

Need to change engine oil soon. I'm using Mobil 1 5w30 (silver label one) right now on my 2012 Countryman S All4, but I saw some people said Motul and Luqui Moly are better. Did any one have experience using Motul 5w30 300V or Luqui Moly 5w30 Longtime High Tech?

I'm of the opinion that if you change the oil frequently it doesn't matter all that much as long as it meets the specs of MINI. I've used dealer supplied or L Moly.

Also I saw people use Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w40 too, it meet LL-01, but I personally have no experience with 5w40, only used 5w30..what do you guys think?

5,000 miles on any LL-01 oil is a very expensive proposition. Any of the oils you mention are capable of 10k or yearly OCI. I've used Motul and it's a good oil. If you insist on 5k changes gets the cheapest LL-01 oil you can find and be done with it. BTW, MiNI branded oil is Euro Castrol. Mobil 1 0w40 is a popular choice that is usually a good price, think you can find it at Walmart.

Ithe Motul is the 8100 X-chess 5w40. That's what is in it now. Interval is only one of the reasons to use a synthetic oil and thus why few leave the LL spec. IIRC the Mobil one 0W40 meets the LL-01 spec. I'm no oil genius but I've spent some time researching on the bob is the oil guy forum.

Last information was that Shell Oil was the supplier of MINI brand oil.

Will it have any problem if I change from 5W30 to 5W40. If I change it, do I need to stick with 40 in the future? Because I read some post said that 40 will harder then 30 to go through the gaps between parts in the engine because it's thicker. And if used thicker oil and go back to thinner oil will cause some kind of problem because the gaps in the engine used to that thickness or the gaps is bigger?

You can go back and forth as you wish no problem. The metal in your engine won't know the difference. The LL-01 is the main thing you need to watch.

OMG, I was using Mobil1 5w30 and it is not LL-01...also some people said M1 is not true synthetic...

I'm looking at Redline 5w30 right now, saw many people said Redline is true synthetic (something related to group V base, not sure what is it..), do you know is it meet LL-01?

What do you think of Redline?

and do you know what different between this 2 package?

I don't believe Redline does but it's the one oil that I'd use regardless. Still, a pricey oil for 5k intervals.

Here's an interesting thing that I came upon when I went to look...

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub...serting#UNREAD

Also talks about the Shell oil replacing Castrol that Minnie.the mentioned (which I hadn't realized).

If yes, which package of 5w30 should i buy?

I'm with Mini the Moocher. I have two Minis. One is a 2007 base model I purchased new in Dec. 2007 it now has 213,400 miles on it. I change the oil & filter every 3000K which some argue is excessive. It has had no oil related issues and it burns 1 pint between oil changes.

Changing every 3k isn't going to hurt anything but your wallet. Their was/is a memeber who ran their first gen up to 300k+ before needing engine work all on the OLM (I.e. 15k or more OCIs).

I'd use Mobil 1 0w40 or German Castrol every 10k and not worry about it.

Oh, and if Redline says they do now then I'd trust it. It's a great cleaning oil. If you want to use it every 5k then go ahead. Like I said, the only thing you're hurting is your wallet.

Not sure about the difference between the two Redline bottles.

Cleaning oil isn't necessarily a technical term but just means an oil that does a good job of taking down sludge etc.

Just go with the Mobil 1 0w40. Cheap at Walmart, though I hate going there. LOL. Also, stick with the MINI Genuine oil filters. And do that every 5k miles. Check your oil level frequently. Like with every fill-up on gas. Just an easy way to remember.

Motor On!
