From BMW July 2015 magazine Roundel:

The BMW Group has given the go-ahead for the most powerful production Mini ever. The new Mini JCW will have a two-liter, four-cylinder, turbo-charged engine putting out 231 hp
[231 Horsepower [HP] = 227.8 Brake horsepower [bhp]] and 236 pound-foot of torque. That’s a 10% increase in hp and 23% bump in torque over the previous model.

 

170 kW = 231 PS = 228 HP

 

I’m not saying it’s a bad car, but maybe in about another 10 years they’ll catch up to where the Focus ST is now. Except the MINI would still cost thousands more.

It’s becoming painfully apparent that BMW can’t design a decent four cylinder sans the M10 and S14.

To think that a decade ago if I recall there was a 210HP JCW kit. I hope that Honda brings the Type R over as something else to cross shop.

 

Wtf ? 20% larger and only gained 10% hp ? That's sad.

I have been receiving mailers on the new JCW. I really like my '15S and am not going to test drive a new JCW. My willpower would seriously challenged.

 

I understand and I have not yet went over and talked with my dealer ........ yet.
