Yeah..just when I had given up on MINI getting me to ever buy another they do this...which is just beautiful. And the small changes in the patent renders are actually an improvement.

We shall see!

Seen it in person, hope production is like the prototype.

The proof will be in the styling of the production version. If MINI is able to take all of the constraints of existing platform architecture and mandated safety standards, and still make a beautiful and compelling roadster, they would go a long way to re-establishing the enthusiasm that they enjoyed a decade ago.

Well apparently the rumors were just that.

It looks better than the Miata. It will probably be quicker, and it will be more exclusive. MINI's also are much more comfortable for taller and bigger people too. My 6'3" buddy has an MX5 and he had to remove the door armrests, sun visors, and shave the seat foam down. However the MINI will be more expensive, parts will cost more, and it most likely won't be as reliable...

Reminds me of the '02-'05 Thunderbirds. I'm not a fan of either I must say.

Off topic, I saw a '15 Mustang today. The first thing I thought of was it was the ugly offspring on an Audi TT and a Dodge Viper.

You mean the best looking Mustang ever made Seriously I love that car. Almost sold my MINI for one but I bought a house instead. Doing the adult thing is no fun!

Apparently the rumors have now been denied, so there is no Superleggera in 2018...until the next rumor that is.

This will be a tough choice between the new "back to basics" MX5, the robust BMW Z4 and exclusiveness of the new MINI roadster. Depends on what's more important to you I guess. Again this is hard...

Whelp, that ended fast. Looks like there's some backpedaling going on. No commitments have been made from MINI on this or the Rocketman--in fact, some serious doubt was cast upon the little Rocketman. SMH.

I would rather see the Minor/Rocketman before this!

It's not dead yet, but not "approved" either.
Nor would it be at this stage, if they are targeting 2018 MY cycle:

Good looking car, though...

Not really, no.

Z4, even in its lightest and cheapest incarnation as Z4.28i, is a 3,300 pound porkster that starts at $49K and quickly crosses $60+K if you sneeze while configuring your car online.
MX5 is a great 2,500 pound roadster to drive and race, starts at $24K, but I just don't fit into one: the top of the windshield is right inline with my eyes!
That leaves us the sexy looking MINI roadster ... which will likely cost north of $35K, but it does so in style!
