Hey there...just purchased a 2012 Mini Cooper S 'JCW'. I wud like to know if it is a tuned/modded 'JCW', or it came from factory as is? (I apologize...this is my first Mini...don't know much about them.)

Yea, Post the VIN, last 7 digits. The Factory JCW will have the factory big tip exhaust and the red stitched steering wheel. On the Engine cover it will not say anything JCW ( that was the 2013 on. Now on the Tuning kits it will have a little JCW Tuning kit badge ( plaque ). And the JCW tuning kit has the JCW exhaust with smaller separate tips that say JCW embossed on the tips.

 

Thanx for the quick response! Hmmm...this 2012, has no 'red stitching' anywhere. No 'JCW' badges anywhere except both door sills do have the JCW badge. Strange? The last 7 of the vin are T387260...says its just a 'Cooper S'? It has fat exhaust tips ( no badges on exhaust tips).

No Factory JCW, they added JCW bits and might have added the JCW engine tuning kit( you can check that, or you got the JCW exterior package which is the body kit and the door sills plaque or the R112 wheels.

 

Interesting! Yes this one has the exterior kit too. I have never owned a Mini....took a test drive in this 2012 JCW...one of the reasons I bought this car, is how ridiculously fast it was! Wow! If this is just a normal Cooper S....it's quick as hell!! I used the vin decoder....says its just a Cooper S....no JCW. The wheels look to be 'R90'.

Yea, Looks like the JCW exterior package option to me. Especially with the R112 wheels I mentioned before.

It doesnt look like they added the JCW tuning kit. The exhaust tips are the stock Cooper S tips. The JCW tuning kit comes with a JCW rear muffler.

 

Thanx for all the info/help...looks like just the JCW exterior kit. I have never had a Mini...still, very impressed with this little car. (Let's my offroad rig rest now!)

I think the '12 JCWs were pretty similar to the '09 ones (except the latter year ones that had the N18 engine if memory serves?) so you can also tell that it's an S by the side scuttles (JCWs had a chrome-colored solid piece with no letters) and brakes (no red calipers).

Enjoy the kit. Mine is a JCW but was base and the original owner didn't kick in for the exterior body kit. :( So I'm waiting to drop some coin on that in the near future.

 

IIRC, all R56 JCWs had N14 engines.
Even in the years when regular MCS went N18, JCW used N14s.

Yep the n14 was used in the FJCW till 2012. In 2013 they went to the N18 for the JCW engine.
