Claim denied on the tire & wheel protection coverage

Wife called and told me she had a flat tire, I found a screw in the center of the tire.
When she bought the car she paid for the warranty protection. I changed the tire and took the flat to the dealer.
Just got a call from the service department telling me the claim was denied & I needed to follow up with the warranty coverage people. I left a voicemail....Waiting to hear from them.

Am I wrong to expect BMW whom we paid for this coverage to work on my behalf? This is really interesting since we were contemplating buying a new mini.

Confused & Irritated............

Pursue it, it sounds like it should be covered, unless it is an old tire with some serious tread wear.

I believe the warranty states you have to have an authorization number etc before any work starts...

Not to state the obvious, but you really need to find and read the warranty from the after-market warranty the dealership sold you. Everyone is different and usually does not come from MiniUSA. Assuming there is time remaining AND thread wear remaining (often it needs to be greater than 2/32nds of an inch) I discovered they can be canceled at any time at the dealership (I could not cancel it over the phone with the third party company nor does the dealer returns calls when they have to give warranty commission back). I received a couple hundred dollars refund for the time remaining on my canceled tire warranty. Often they will only prorate based on the wear left, but will refund based on time.

It honestly depends on the dealer who you are dealing with. I had a relationship with my MA, and he always took care of my issues without giving me grief over my flat or even my mods on my car. But definitely do what Gray Raven said, you should be fine:-).

When I bought our mini, I didn't know it had RFT on it. A few days after purchase, I spotted a nail in it. Took it to Discount Tire to repair, nope, they wouldn't touch it. Took it to dealer, same story, they won't repair a RFT. I've since learned some RFT are repairable. Ended up buying a new one. Went back to Discount Tire, bought their road hazard warranty on all four tires..

Just to clarify a few things...
Tires have 8000 miles on them, second set and way more tread than 2/32 which the contract stipulates. The warranty covers "any tire or wheel" for 5 years. They denied replacement because they think I put the screw in the tire. I asked them why would I change the tire out and drive 38 miles to the dealer to replace a fairly new tire when I could drive around the corner and have it fixed for $15.00?

My biggest issue is this is a BMW sponsored program that is sold through the Mini dealership, they should be the one to advocate for the customer and follow up to get it done. I told the MA that I would be happy if they offered a refund on the contract. The car has 32,000 miles on it and they are the only dealership to work on the car and the first one I would go to for new business. If they don't pull for me they have lost all future business.

I should state that this is the 4th tire replacement under the program. Almost breaking even...

Wait... They accused YOU of putting the screw in the tire? They actually said that with a straight face? I think you're the one that got screwed (all pun intended)..

Care to share which dealership? I'm currently going through the same process. I also had a young man at the dealership actually state to me "We've had a person screw in a screw just recently." I could not believe he was implying that I may have done same. I called "America's tires while still at the dealership! When I walked to the service desk and asked for the wheel size and he learned I was on the phone with a competitor his attitude started to change.

My mini is currently at america's tires getting the tires changed today I have yet to write the dealership in untill this process has completed.

But I believe this young man has damaged my character and my creditability with the insurance company. I do not wish to visit the dealership where we purchased our min but it is closest to us and still 50 miles away.

I smell a Lawsuit in the making.
Did he actually call therm and state the same?
Have YOU called the INS company?
And once you give in and replace the tires at America's Tire Store, aren't you then canceling the original contract?
Just wondering out loud here as I have not had any issues with any tire, or any part of my MINI that's under warranty getting fixed. The dealership is always asking what they can do for me and the misses!

Maybe someone can upload a PDF of the tire warranty they have and let PEEPS look it over and assist them. It takes time and effort to actually read and know what is covered and when, and most people don't want to waste the time until it's too late.
Not saying that's you Deb, just saying most and it shows on these forums.

LOL, we have jumped and are still jumping thru hoops with this. Yes we started with the insurance company who sent us to the dealership, we were also given the choice of Americas tires but chose the dealership 50 miles away thinking they would have the tires and could take care of us straight away. After the 50 mile drive we were told we would have to leave the car because it looked like the screw had been screwed in like I previous stated. We are still going thru the insurance company just not the dealership. Payment is still pending for the tire with the screw we actually have a nail in one tire as well, visited a construction site (unknowingly). You see the tires must be on the car to be inspected so we could not even change the tires at our cost until such time the "3rd party" inspector viewed and took pictures of the tires. They had to be sure they were the correct tires...
In this process I also discovered the new better rft's from America's tires will also be covered under the existing BMW guard contract.

I did not appreciate the young man at the dealership inferring that we had in any way tried to defraud a claim on tires with less than10k on them.

I don't even want to get started on the promise from the dealership at time of purchase regarding the wheels will be covered for cosmetic abrasions.....

We were also told we would have a rental car available, however the dealer now states no rentals available until next tues , a week away. We are now 2 weeks into the process just to insure we follow the insurance contract to the letter. I agree read your contracts people, do not change your tire yourselves you will void your insurance warranties.

By the comments I have read on the BMW site it doesn't seem they are concerned with bad PR.

Debb,

I'm in SoCal so not the same dealer. FYI I told the dealership that this was their problem and my issue was with them. They sold us the insurance therefore they could fix it or reimburse me for the insurance on the original contract. They decided to fix it. I'm red flagged with the insurance company because it's my 4th claim and they have lost their profit on this contract now. 2 more years to go on the contract. Good luck!

Glad they were Run Flats. You would still be sitting on the side of the road 2 weeks later waiting for the adjuster to come out and take photos. Unbelievable! How can they expect you not to fix a potential flat until they can examine the tire on the car? By the way make sure you're not carrying a cordless drill or hammer in your MINI when you go to the dealer. They'll think its evidence of the crime.

I had the low tire pressure warning go off on the Clubman. I took it into the dealer a couple of days later and they found a nail in the tire. They replaced the tire, no questions asked. The tires are 19 months old.

@Mr. T
I have to call BS
I drive thru and around your town
I sometimes hang out by the river walk
And there are NO NAILS laying around in your town
With the amount of high class nostrils in the cloud around there, they wouldn't know a nail if it was stuck in their eyeballs

But I digress......
Was it Jacobs you went to?
Just asking cause I'm thinking of going to them for my Clubby instead of Tinley from now on.

Thanks

I disagree, BuubJCW, you might have to find your precious spectacles and take a closer look. There nails-o-plenty around these parts.

If you must know, yes, it was Bill Jacobs. If you make your way to the land of occasional nail, ask for Mitch. He is fantastic and completely worth waiting for. Trust me. Tell him the fanatic with the Midnight Black/Toffee Interior Roadster sent you. He'll know who it is.

Ha Ha Ha Mr. T
I really do need those glasses
I was thinking you were in Naperville
All I had to do was look at your posts
But yeah, Plainfield has nails here and there
I'll be calling Jacobs in a few weeks
Need some stuff added onto the Clubby
Plus every time I need parts from the other place, they have to order from Germany or some other otherworldly spot on the planet
Been waiting 3 1/2 months for a bottle of touch up paint (BRG II)
Must be killing a wild Ugandan parrot for the pigment

Maybe I'll see you around town some weekend, Panera? :-)
