The nearest dealer is 3 hrs away. It has 11K mi - I'm old school and have no problem doing it myself.
I hear you. I change mine at 6K (well, I let the dealer do it because for $69, because the money I might save is more than offset by the disposal hassle... and it's only an hour drive to the dealer).
But I would SERIOUSLY recommend you only use the MINI factory filter all through warranty period.
I bought a NAPA Gold Filter 7512 and 5qt Castrol Edge 5W/30. I'll check with the nearest MINI dealer to see if this is acceptable.
MarinePMI suggests 36mm - this size is for the oil filter.
I'm still looking for what wrench and size is needed for the oil pan plug.
Thanks for responding.
The oil drain plug on the 2nd gen is 8mm Allen. For the filter I find a 1 1/16" six-point socket works great. The filter housing is plastic so do not overtighten when re-installing.
I believe the 36mm is the size for the first generation cars filter - not sure.

27mm for 2nd gen filter removal, is what I read (even though I bought a 36mm for some reason... in case I ever buy a Gen 1 MINI, I suppose).
