gas mileage

Just curious, I have an 08 cooper S auto, I've been getting between 300-350 miles to the tank, with a mix of highway and city driving and being in traffic sometimes. Is that about normal??

What is your miles per gallon reading from your car's on board computer?

Was just curious, I have friends with regular coopers who are getting pretty amazing gas mileage, thought there might be something wrong with mine!

The right foot is the main difference, I think.

I went from 30 to just under 50 MPG in my previous car just by changing how I drove.

My wife's 2009 MCS is averaging 31.9 on 140 measured fills.
I'm averaging 29.0 in my JCW S Coupe. Not bad if you ask me. (29 fill ups)

Envy!! I thought I would get closer to 30 if not about 30 a gallon, but I guess I do have a bit of a lead foot.. driving around South Philadelphia and being in traffic on 95 doesn't help the cause!

Yup, another heavy right foot.

If you want good fuel economy, you have to drive for economy.

My r56 MCS gets 9.6 mpg on the track and 34-36 mpg combined driving.

My 08' Justa got about 41 almost every tank. One time I had put about 627 miles on her and not granny driving it. But with my 11' MCS I get 32.9 on the dashboard. I get around 410-420 miles with a full tank. Again, I don't granny drive but I don't speed a lot either. I just maintain my speed.

There are diagnostic devices that you can plug in and drive for a month and then see all kinds of things about your driving habits. Don't know if MINI dealers have them for you to use. It is becoming a pretty standard thing with new cars, either using the diagnostic port or a USB port and computer download to perform a detailed analysis.

I use a simple on board display tool called scangauge.

Yes, it does. In my Justa, it's about 3-4 MPG on the freeway. It takes power to compress the refrigerant and pump it around the system. That power is made from fuel.

Heavy right foot and the fact that you drive and autotragic. I am averaging 32.5 mpg in my 07 S with a Manual.

I've switched from Gulf Premium 93 Octane to Sunoco 93 Octane and my mpg has increased about 2 mpg. I've used the Sunoco for 5 fill ups and its been very consistent.

No, actually I rarely have it on a true 4 or 6 lane "highway". I don't drive the car a lot, it's not my daily car. When I do use it, I usually take it to work. My commute is 25 miles each way, but it's mostly empty country roads. So I can cruise at 55mph almost the entire way, which obviously helps. I also rarely dip my foot hard into the turbo. Yeah, yeah, I know you may ask why I bought the MCS then. Honestly, sometimes I ask myself the same question. But I bought it because I like the look better, and usually once or twice in my ride I'll rip through the gears just for the fun of it, but most of the time I don't.

If you're on the highway, the a/c really shouldn't make much difference in fuel mileage vs. having the windows down. Now if the windows are up, then there is definitely a difference between a/c on and a/c off.

My previous 07 S got less than 30 MPG around town. If I got to 300 miles before the gas gauge went red- (last 2 acorns) I was doing good. My new 12 Justa gets about 34-35 MPG around town if I baby it. Drops to 29-30 if I run to redline a lot. I usually get to 350 miles before gas gauge goes red.

CooperS84, you're driving in Philly traffic. Even if you do it only part time, it's going to kill your fuel economy. If you're getting 29 mpg with an S I'd say you're doing well.

But you should try stretching your MINI's legs for some significant highway time and see how it does.

Recently I drove about 15 miles up I-26 and my on board comp. showed 47 MPG. 50-60 MPH. I would like to have an opportunity to drive on the expressway for a whole tank to see how far I can go.
