Route finding by Doppler

Does anyone else check the radar to avoid driving through rain if only to keep their baby clean a little longer? Maybe I'm a little too obsessed? Around Seattle we have this weird weather convergence zone so it could be snowing on one side of town, raining on the other and sunny overhead. One mile of distance or three hundred feet of elevation can mean a world of difference particularly in the winter. So...anyone...anyone...Buehler?

If for no other reason it makes yet another excuse to find the backroads.

Nope

If I checked it I would never go anywhere.

I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one who does this.

I often adjust departure times and routes based on active weather and now that I have the GPS-enabled RadarUS app on my iPhone4 along with me in the MINI, I confess that I often monitor how rain showers and storms are developing, tracking, and dissipating and sometimes make on-the-fly route adjustments to try and stay dry.

My dream solution is to have the navigation screen in my MINI displaying the radar loop showing on my iPhone in real time using the MINI Connected interface. (or even better, have the radar display overlaid on the MINI's navigation screen -- although I suspect this would be a lot harder to do)

I hear what you are saying Coolant Guy. I think we've had about two weeks of sunny days so far this summer, which started about two weeks ago.

Great minds think alike Gil-galad! I like your nav display idea. For longer trips that would be sweet. I'd love to see the look on peoples faces when the radar fires up on screen! Maybe it could be part of a new "WRC package". Mini? Are you listening?

I often make little trips on the weekends, maybe an hour or two away. When convenient I'll sometimes leave early or late if I see rain coming. Not only do you get to avoid the extra grime but you get a dry surface to run on. Bonus!
