Mini VS. Porsche! June 21st Road Atlanta
The cars start off facing opposite directions? A MINI and a Porsche playing chicken...Now THAT's interesting!
Orange, looking at your pictures, you definitely have a better line than the black Porsche. Thing I've found about Porsche drivers at HPDE's is that most of them (not all of them, but most of them) will not push their babies the way a MINI owner will push theirs--perhaps it's because the cost differences. I caught and passed GT3's twice on two seperate tracks last year, one of which was blue flagged, and a couple of years ago, I got a heavily modified Carrera blue and eventually black flagged later in the day because he kept holding me up, and wouldn't point me past (I finally got sick of pitting for a minute or so to let him get farther ahead). Course that guy may have been the worst driver I've ever seen--400HP+ in mods, but had never bothered to do a track day with instruction, I found out later (don't know how he managed to get in our group). It's not the car, it's the driver--you're outdriving those guys. And there is a great deal of satisfaction in that; on the other hand, don't build up our cars too much--it's not nearly as fun to catch someone if they expect it...

Reading the "rules" I think there is never 2 cars on the track at the same time ....
In any event, all the talkin' is almost over, tomorrow's the day!
This is beginning to look like Sabine in the Transit Van at the Nurburgring trying to beat Jeremy's 10min in a diesel Jag. http://www.vansandtrucks.co.uk/Ford-Transit-Video-2/
Being a Porsche and Mini driver I am torn. If they put Hurley or Patrick Long or Jorgmeister in the Porsche and a seasoned Mini hauler in the Cooper, the Porsche will take it a Road Atlanta. Straights are too long, speed too high.
But I think they will put a ringer in the P car who is really slow.
Think they will publish the tweeks to the Mini?

it proved exactly what Porsche said ............when you come race Le Mans, Rolex etc then come talk to them
Why would they waste their time?anyone that RACES knows a Porsche is superior to a Mini.........end of story
exactly sorta made me sad inside
Mini should have stopped with the whole deal when Porsche said no.......
for them it was a marketing coup..............
now we look like idiots............ another faux paux marketing blunder
reminds me of the sign they had on the 405 freeway.......... 4 crotch, crotch rocket.........sigh*******
It was just a fun event.
It was just what it was supposed to be. A fun day out. Like the guy just said. Mini owners like to have fun with their cars and I'm sure the Porsche owners do to. I just wish I could have made it up from Daytona to enjoy the day.
Doing things like this makes owning a Mini or any other sporty type car worth owning. """JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT"""
On events like this it don't matter to me what car wins. It is the fun of watching the cars perform that really matters.

Porsche won by two seconds. And two seconds doesn't sound like much to most people--on Motoringfile there are MINI apologists going on and on about how close it was. I didn't even bother to post there about it; I've given up arguing with the fanboys over there, most of whom have never been on a track but somehow have become experts on how a MINI performs on one.
On that track, which is more like an autocross than a real track, it goes without saying that two seconds is an eternity....
