Mini VS. Porsche! June 21st Road Atlanta
Has Mini officially lost their minds?
you be the judge
do they have something up their sleeve with a big motor and bigger turbo? Or just another PR stunt?

just for your entertainment............The TRG Porsche with stock engine and RMW tune was the fastest car this weekend at Watkins Glen
It had the 3 fastest laps at the race.

sure..............it will be based on the winner's car for the discount........
are you driving your Porsche to the track?
Probably just another PR stunt. You can obviously tell BMW could careless about all the competitors out there trying to say there cars have more power than MINIs. I think the MINI to them is just a mild sedative to help people get a rush in a mild mannered performance vehicle. I don't think we'll be seeing any larger turbos or engines anytime soon. It's a nice thought though.
I sure hope Mini gets Randy Pobst as a driver.
This ought to be really good. I think if Mini gets Randy Pobst to drive their car the Porsche will lose. I can hardly wait to see the outcome of this if it happens.

There is speculation that MINI is planning to race on a "mini-course" located inside the full Road Atlanta course.

If that were the case, the MINI *might* have a chance.

Mini VS. Porsche! June 21st Road Atlanta
Borrowed from Motoringfile:

A few of you may have seen the MINI vs Porsche ad in yesterday’s New York times. We now have the exclusive first look at the official video from MINI USA. Yes MINI USA is calling out Porsche to meet them on the track at Road Atlanta with a Porsche Carrera S and a driver. MINI will bring a 2010 Cooper S and their own driver. We don’t know much about any of the other parameters or if Porsche will even show up. But we do know that MINI will win win lose or draw in just posing the challenge to a car costing (at least) three times as much.
The video above shows MINI USA head Jim McDowell (former Porsche exec) calling out Porsche and even throwing in a few bald guy Porsche jokes for good measure. Clearly the overall tone is cheeky and MINI is taking themselves too seriously with this. But can they win? If the track is tight and technical enough perhaps. However as much as we love MINIs, a Carrera S is fast car on any track (provided the driver is decent). For MINI to win it would need to be a combination of the right track and right driver.
The event will be closed to the public but we’ll be part of the exclusive group of journalists covering the event.

As I said in another post!!!!!!
Mini needs Randy Pobst to be their driver. A Front wheel drive car needs a driver that knows what the car's characteristics are and not be afraid to push it to the limits.
Does anyone know if they are doing the whole track or just a part of it? Because I think (by looking at the rack) if they do part of it or even the whole thing MINI stands a chance. There a couple of iffy spots namely the long straight aways which is going to kill them. But I think Jim McDowell would have choosen a track that is slanted toward the MINI. Also does anyone know if Porsche accepted the challenge?
If it's on a slalom course things could be interesting.
This is from an Edmunds article on the 2005 MCS:
Able to attack the slalom with even more vigor, the Mini Cooper S convertible whipped through the cones at nearly 67 mph, a most impressive feat. As both Coopers had identical suspension calibrations, the increased speed is obviously due to the S' greater power that provides more pull from cone to cone. To put this stellar performance into proper perspective, consider this: We're talking a bigger number here than those achieved by the C6 Chevy Corvette and Porsche 911.
